The money played a role – Dede Ayew on move to join Swansea City

Andre Ayew, the captain of the Black Stars, has opened up about his move to Swansea in 2015, expressing satisfaction with his decision.

Ayew’s introduction to the Premier League with Swansea was highly successful, marked by an instant impact as he scored a debut goal against Chelsea and was honored as the Premier League’s Player of the Month in his first month at the club.

After his stint with Swansea, Ayew made a transfer to West Ham for a then-record fee of £20.5 million.

When reflecting on his decision to join Swansea in 2015, Ayew mentioned financial considerations as one of the factors influencing his choice.

“In France, we didn’t really know about Swansea. Some bigger clubs showed interest, but they didn’t play the same style of football. I had a crucial role to play, and the financial aspect also played a part.

For me, it was the perfect decision. And as soon as I arrived, I was recognised as the Premier League’s best player for the month.”

After eight years since his transfer to Swansea, Ayew, now a player for Le Havre in Ligue 1, has been recognized as the Player of the Month for February by his current club.
