Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has expressed his admiration for young Benfica midfielder João Neves, who has been linked with interest from Old Trafford.
Scouts from the Premier League side reportedly attended Benfica’s 2-1 victory against Sporting CP, witnessing the 19-year-old’s crucial stoppage-time goal.
Neves has been a standout performer for Benfica this season, earning his senior international debut for Portugal.
His impressive form has attracted attention, including interest from Manchester United, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
“It has to be the Manchester United coach who says whether he has a place in the team or not,” Fernandes told reporters ahead of Sunday’s 2-0 win over Iceland.
“He’s a great player, I don’t know if he would have a place or not. It depends on the coach and his ideas. But he’s an excellent player and an excellent kid, very professional. He will have a bright future wherever he goes.
“I would love to have him by my side, because he has quality and will have a bright future. It depends on him. What I want most is the best for him.”
