Prominent South African influencer and YouTuber, Kay Yarms, leveraged her social media platform to encourage her followers to register for the upcoming elections before the deadline.
In a surprising move, Yarms shared a link to what appeared to be a new video on her Instagram story. However, instead of directing viewers to fresh content, the link led them to the voter registration website for the imminent elections on May 29.
With the voter registration deadline looming, Yarms’ initiative aimed to motivate young people, many of whom had yet to register, to participate in the electoral process.
Reacting to the unexpected redirection, one follower expressed gratitude, stating, “You really tricked us here, but thank you. Now I’m fully registered thanks to you.”
Another follower shared, “I literally forced my friend to register using your link.”
With approximately 300,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, Yarms holds significant influence, particularly among South Africa’s Generation Z.
As many in this demographic prepare to exercise their voting rights for the first time, Yarms’ advocacy serves as a catalyst for civic engagement and political participation.
