Self-acclaimed chief given a 15 month jail term over fraudulent sale of land

An Accra Circuit Court has handed down a 15-month prison sentence to a self-proclaimed chief and businessman, Nii Kotey Susubribi, also known as Nii Isaac or Kotey Nii Quaye, for engaging in fraudulent land dealings.

Presided over by Evelyn Asamoah, the court found him guilty of charges that included making death threats and conducting deceitful transactions.

Tears streamed down his face as he awaited police escort to begin serving his sentence.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Frimpong, who led the prosecution, the case involved two complainants: Alfred Agbosu, a businessman from Achimota, and Freeman Kofi Owusu, residing in New Achimota, Accra.

In 2003, Agbosu purchased 1.869 acres of land in Abehenase from the Amah Asor family, lawfully represented by the accused’s late elder brother, Kotey Nii Kwei.

Agbosu obtained a Land Title Certificate in December 2005 for the land, upon which he constructed two single rooms that he later entrusted to his caretaker, Korsi Tondey.

The prosecution detailed that trouble began in February 2015 when the accused, now convicted, started interfering with Agbosu’s property, claiming ownership.

“The caretaker, fearing for his life, packed his belongings and left the land.

The accused person then fraudulently sold a portion of the land to unsuspecting members of the public, including the second complainant, Freeman Kofi Owusu, for GHc42,000.”

The prosecution added that a search obtained from the Land Registration Division of the Land Commission in Accra confirmed Mr Agbosu’s title to the land.
