Contractors engaged in the Yelwa, Nguan Dushi, Jonkponto, Nguan Mallam, and Iddipe electricity extension project have recommenced their activities on the site.
In a noteworthy development for the Salaga South Constituency, the electricity extension initiatives, which experienced setbacks since 2020, are now poised to resume.
This positive turn of events follows the successful intervention of the former Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Adam Salifu Braimah.
Between 2017 and 2019, the former Member of Parliament secured contracts for the extension of electrification, benefiting over ten communities, including SSNIT bungalows, Kakoshi Chakosi, Klaw, Kunshi, Dagbambia, and Yahayilli.
While progress was evident in certain areas, shortages of crucial materials led to temporary work stoppages in communities such as Yelwa, Nguan Dushi, Jonkponto, Nguan Mallam, and Iddipe.
After a period of three years of inactivity, negotiations in Accra between the former Member of Parliament, the Ministry of Energy, and the Municipal Chief Executive for East Gonja, Richard Broni, have yielded positive outcomes.
In an effort to revive the 2019-initiated project, former MP Salifu Adam Braimah has led the contractors back to the project site.
He emphasized the importance of completing the project on schedule, stating, “This project is very dear to the people here, and its completion will not only have a domestic impact but also boost the economic activities of the people.”
Acknowledging the unfortunate stall in the contract, he expressed gratitude that the contractors are back and urged them to work diligently to meet the contract schedule.
The former MP highlighted the commitment of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led government to provide the necessary infrastructure expansion in all sectors, including rural electrification.
The contractor, in turn, assured of delivering quality work and pledged to meet the contract deadline.Since 2017, the former Member of Parliament and the first Savannah Regional Minister have commissioned over 30 rural electrification projects in the Salaga South Constituency.
Before assuming office in 2017, not a single community out of over 70 communities in the Abrumase area was connected to the national grid.
Presently, over 60 percent of communities in that enclave, including several others in the Kafaba, Sisipe, Massaka, and Yayilli electoral areas, have access to electricity.
“This project is very dear to the people here and its completion will not only serve domestic impact, but also boost economic activities of the people.”
“It’s unfortunate that the contract stalled along the way, but thankfully you are back and we want you to work extra hard to meet the contract schedule.“
