Women around the world are increasingly taking on significant roles across various fields,including the daughter of Ghana’s first female chief of staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare, aiming to leave their mark not just within their organisations but also in history.
In Ghana, women have steadily emerged as crucial figures contributing to the growth, development, and sustainability of both large and small institutions spanning banking, technology, agriculture, finance, politics, and law.
Adding to this trend is Maataa Opare.
Further investigation reveals that Maataa Opare currently serves as the Group Head of Legal and Company Secretary at Fidelity Bank Limited in Accra.
According to the bank’s official website, Maataa boasts over sixteen years of experience as an in-house lawyer in financial institutions, with additional experience in property litigation and product liability gained from Hogan Lovells in the UK.
She is also a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and has been admitted to the Bar in Ghana, indicating her dual jurisdiction qualification.
Having relocated to Ghana in 2012, Maataa has played pivotal roles at Fidelity Bank Limited, including facilitating the acquisition of ProCredit Savings and Loans and its subsequent integration.
She was sworn in as a member of the governing board of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in July 2021. Additionally, she serves as the Patron of the ECG Power Queens and as a Trustee of the Head of State Awards Ghana under the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
In addition to her professional achievements, Maataa Opare holds a Masters in Professional Cake Design, showcasing her diverse talents. Notably, she is recognized for creating various masterpieces, including the elaborate 30-piece cake installation for ICGC’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.
