Goalkeeper for both the Black Meteors and Legon Cities, William Essu, has appealed to the Ghana Football Association to release their U-23 AFCON winning bonuses from their victory over Algeria in March 2023.
This request comes as Essu’s deteriorating health condition, which was shared on the internet on September 12, 2023, has garnered sympathy and attention.
Reports suggest that Essu has been grappling with a serious illness for several months, and he feels neglected by his club, Legon Cities.
Consequently, he has decided to publicly call out the Football Association to address this outstanding debt.
In a Twitter post , the 21-year-old goalkeeper reached out to Coach Ibrahim Tanko, the entire Black Meteors management team, and the Ghana Football Association for assistance.
He has emphasised his urgent need for another health check-up but lamented that he lacks the financial means to cover the expenses, as he has already depleted his savings by seeking treatment without success.
Tragically, on the same day, September 12, 2023, Sylvester Sackey, another goalkeeper from Legon Cities, was confirmed to have passed away following a brief illness.
