Our businesses are at stake due to the bad tag on our town – Kasoa residents

Concerned citizens of Kasoa are expressing frustration over the portrayal of their community following recent media reports linking criminal activities to the area.

Their concerns stem from the shooting incident involving military personnel at the District Police Command in Millennium City, situated within the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

In a statement released on May 1, 2024, the residents voiced their dissatisfaction with the ongoing misrepresentation.

“We are extremely unhappy with the continuous misrepresentation of our community in the media. Kasoa has unfairly become synonymous with crime, despite many incidents occurring outside our municipality,” the residents noted.

The residents stressed the need for accurate reporting to prevent tarnishing Kasoa’s reputation and impeding its economic progress.

“As residents, we do not find it tasteful that the bad name tag is associated with Kasoa, as it is blocking our business potential,” they said.

Furthermore, they cited the recent shooting incident as evidence of inaccurate portrayal.

“We are disturbed that a state security agency like the police could not define the jurisdiction accurately. It must be noted that the Millennium City, where the shooting took place, is natively known as Gomoa Bantama and falls directly under Gomoa Fetteh in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, while Kasoa falls within the Awutu Senya East Municipality.

“In a similar incident, an alleged missing manhood case that happened at Nyanyano Kakraba, also in the Gomoa East, was widely reported as happening in Kasoa,” the statement said.

“all Ghanaians, particularly media organisations and state agencies, to do due diligence and avoid mentioning Kasoa other than the specific locations where crimes are perpetrated.”

The residents urged all Ghanaians, particularly media organizations and state agencies, to exercise due diligence and refrain from mentioning Kasoa unless referring to specific locations where crimes occur.

Despite their grievances, the residents commended the police for swiftly apprehending the perpetrator of the recent murder. They called for further investigation to apprehend any other individuals involved and to address the underlying issue of violent land disputes.
