In a surprising turn of events, Akuapem South Member of Parliament (MP), Osei Bonsu Amoah, widely known as O.B. Amoah, has formally stepped back from the impending New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary contest.
Initially hesitant about pursuing a fourth term, O.B. Amoah had a change of heart and collected nomination forms for the Akuapem South constituency.
However, he has now communicated his decision to withdraw from the race through a recent letter addressed to party officials.
His withdrawal has paved the way for other prominent contenders in the primaries, including Kwame Ofori-Gyau, Eric Samuel Annor-Mensah, and Frank Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem South.
In the formal announcement, O.B. Amoah stated, “I write to inform you that I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for the election of a Parliamentary Candidate for the General Elections in 2024 in the Akuapem South constituency.
I respectfully request that under the Public Elections Regulations, 2016, C.I. 94, my name should be deleted from the ballot paper for the election. I am most grateful and count on your cooperation.”
With the NPP parliamentary race now scheduled for Saturday, January 27, the departure of O.B. Amoah introduces a new dynamic, setting the stage for a closely watched and competitive electoral process in Akuapem South.
