NPP bussing minors, strangers to partake in voter registration exercise – NDC alleges

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savelugu constituency of the Northern region are cautioning the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) against an alleged plan to deploy individuals known for their physical prowess to incite unrest in the area ahead of the upcoming limited registration exercise.

The exercise which is organized by the Electoral Commission (EC), commenced today, Tuesday, May 7, 2024 with the aim of registering new voters nationwide.

However, this impending constitutional process is already causing tensions in several areas of the Northern region, including the Savelugu constituency.

During a press conference held on Monday, May 6th, 2024, in Savelugu, the NDC’s communication officer for the constituency, Abass Abdul Rahaman, asserted that the NPP allegedly intends to deploy individuals with a reputation for physical intimidation to disrupt the registration process and sow discord in the area for their own political gain.

“Akufo-Addo who happens to be a caretaker and of course his driver mate as a result of their extreme eagerness and anxious to overturn the fortunes of Ghana, even the NPP party has been changed into Nana Addo’s party, no wonder they have found themselves in that difficult stage. Ladies and gentlemen it is equally important to note that until 2020 election this constituency has never recorded  even an aorta of death of even a non living  organism let alone a young enterprising visionary girl who came to watch for purposes of democracy and the purpose of the beauty of election she eventually died in a bizarre manner is quite disheartening,” he stated.

Mr Rahaman claimed that information obtained by the NDC in the Savelugu constituency suggests that the ruling party plans to transport individuals, including minors, from the Tamale Central constituency to register them in Savelugu, thereby tilting the electoral advantage in favor of the NPP in the upcoming December elections.

“Let me equally put it, however, it becomes a matter of sad and heavily political discourse hearing and picking up signals purported to be planned out by some unscrupulous members of the NPP in this particular constituency. Ladies and gentlemen attempts have been advanced so far within the NPP fraternity to bus people all the way from Tamale most especially from Zozeli area with the mindset that they are busing them to get them registered in this impending limited registration exercise,” he added.

He emphasized that the NDC is prepared to respond with equal force if the NPP attempts to intimidate their supporters from participating in the registration process.

Mr Rahaman urged the Electoral Commission, Ghana Police Service, the traditional leader of the Savelugu Traditional Area, His the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), Highness Yoo-Naa Andani Yakubu Abdulai, and other relevant authorities to intervene and prevent the NPP from disrupting the peace and stability in the area.
