An evangelist, Timothy Tsikata, has shared a harrowing tale of narrowly escaping a lynching after being falsely accused of theft in Ashaiman.
Detailing the incident that unfolded on Monday, April 1, 2024, around 1:30 PM, Mr Tsikata recounted how he was at a bus station, preparing to travel from Ashiaman to Teshie for his ministerial obligations.
However, a routine stop to consider purchasing a pair of jeans turned into a nightmare when the vendor suddenly accused him of stealing his manhood, prompting an immediate demand for its return.
Perplexed and vehemently denying the outrageous allegation, Tsikata found himself under attack as the vendor’s accusations incited a nearby crowd to join in the assault.
Amidst the chaos, Tsikata endured a brutal beating, with the mob seizing his belongings, including his iPhone and tablet.
The situation escalated dangerously as the assailants attempted to inflict further harm, wielding bricks to attack him.
In a stroke of fortune, two courageous bystanders intervened, preventing a potentially fatal outcome, and escorted Tsikata to safety at the Ashiaman Police Station.
With the prompt assistance of the police, Tsikata’s stolen possessions were recovered, and he received essential medical treatment.
However, during the ensuing investigation, it became evident that the accuser’s claim of a missing manhood was baseless, as it was found to be intact.
He wrote in parts;
“I was detained behind the counter for about an hour when both of us were called by the police commander for investigation. Police statements were taken from both of us and during the process of the investigation the guy was asked to remove his pants for them to check if indeed the manhood has disappeared. When they checked, surprisingly, the manhood was there hanging in between his two legs.
The police commander asked him, are you not the one who said your manhood is missing, so how come it’s still hanging there after we checked it? He replied, saying that it was initially long but now it’s short. The police commander was very angry and furious and ordered that, the guy be arrested and charged with assault and for also raising a false alarm”.
Subsequent revelations uncovered the scheme as a robbery ploy, with the false accusation serving as a smokescreen for criminal intent.
Reflecting on the traumatic ordeal, Tsikata emphasized the importance of vigilance and cautioned against falling prey to such scams.
He underscored the need for public awareness and urged individuals to remain wary of false accusations and fraudulent schemes.
Tsikata’s resilience and the intervention of Good Samaritans served as a testament to the power of community solidarity and vigilance in the face of adversity.
