There is no clear reason for it right now.
The Sheriff’s office in Washington County will give more information at a press conference on Friday.
The police officers went to Mr. Wilkinson’s house because they were told someone had been shot. The person who got hurt was discovered with bleeding injuries from being shot in front of his house.
Neil Parrott, a state legislator, wrote on X (which used to be called Twitter) that Mr. Wilkinson seemed to have been shot multiple times.
The police want people to not go near the person they believe committed a crime, but to quickly tell the police about it instead.

According to the Maryland State Archives, Mr. Wilkinson became a judge in 2020 after being a lawyer for more than 20 years. He was involved in his church and he also coached sports for young people.
