One fatality has been reported in the Makango floods in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region, while two individuals who were at risk of drowning while attempting to cross to Yeji were successfully rescued.
Mr. Ibrahim Issah, a former Assembly Member representing the Makango Electoral Area, informed the media that Makango and its surrounding areas, including Abelekura, Soldierkope, and Titikura, have experienced extensive flooding due to the overflow of the Volta Lake.
The ongoing flood has led to the displacement of numerous individuals, isolating the Makango communities from nearby areas.
Mr. Richard Broni, the Municipal Chief Executive of East Gonja, disclosed that data from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) indicated that approximately 3,300 people have been displaced, and 792 homes have been submerged so far.
He noted that discussions have been held with regional and national stakeholders to secure assistance from government and private organizations to aid those affected, and he advised residents to relocate to safer areas.
Concerns have been expressed by the residents about the potential for further displacement and danger if the rains persist.
