The Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza, expressed concern as only ten individuals managed to register since the start of the limited voter registration on May 7.
“In the whole of the Adaklu constituency, only 10 people have been registered since morning on day 1. The EC must be sensitive to Ghanaians,” the Adaklu lawmaker told TV3’s Komla Klutse.
This slow turnout was attributed to the shutdown of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) IT system.
Agbodza urged the EC to prioritize sensitivity and facilitate more registrations onto the electoral roll.
The registration, targeting those who turned 18 since the last exercise, kicked off on May 7 and will run until May 27.
The EC plans to establish permanent centers at district offices and utilize mobile teams for harder-to-reach areas.
“Permanent centres will be set up at the District offices while mobile teams would be used to register eligible applicants in the difficult to access Electoral Areas. The list of registration centres will be provided to the Political Parties no later than twenty-one (21) days to the Registration exercise,” the EC noted.
Political parties will receive a list of registration centers twenty-one days before the exercise.
