The revered owner of the renowned gari and beans (gɔbɛ) spot ’11-11′ in Sekondi-Takoradi, Daavi Deede has sadly passed away, as confirmed by GhanaWeb.
The news of her passing, which occurred on Friday, March 22, 2024, has deeply resonated with the residents of Takoradi, who have taken to social media to pay heartfelt tributes to the late ‘gɔbɛ’ vendor, hailing her as a legend and a lifesaver.
A touching message shared on GhanaWeb reads, “May your soul rest in peace, the only realest Daavi ever. You helped boys and changed destinies, thank you. To all the 11 soldiers of beans, we say da yie.”
Another tribute expressed, “She really saved my life so much. From primary – Uni.”
Reports also highlight the special connection between Daavi Deede’s joint and the late President Jerry John Rawlings, noting that during his time at the Air Force Training School in Takoradi, ’11-11′ was his preferred dining spot.
Despite claims that Rawlings used to purchase meals on credit, Daavi Deede had vehemently refuted these allegations, emphasising the strong bond between Rawlings and her family.
She fondly recalled, “A lot of soldiers used to come here, and Rawlings was a good friend to my husband. He used to iron the shirts of my husband, and they shared a great relationship even after Rawlings passed out from the military academy.”
