The primary suspect in the murder case of Princess Afia Ahenkan, a 35-year-old businesswoman in Apaaso near Sokoban within the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly of the Ashanti region, has confessed to the crime in court.
The prime suspect, Allister John, employed as a security guard by the deceased, and his accomplice James Anokye were apprehended as a result of a targeted intelligence-led operation on September 14, 2023.
According to the police, the two suspects went into hiding with the deceased’s KIA Sportage private car, bearing registration number GS 307-21, which they subsequently sold.
The car has been recovered at Adenta, along with its documents, and impounded at the Oyibi Police Station for further investigation.
On September 15, 2023, the suspects were brought before the Asokore Mampong district court and remanded, with a scheduled appearance date of October 3, 2023.
The court proceedings revealed that the alleged crime was a conspiracy involving five individuals, including the two remanded suspects. The prosecution informed the court that efforts are underway to apprehend the other three suspects who are currently at large.
While the suspects did not enter a plea, the prime suspect, Allister John, admitted to committing the crime and took full responsibility for his actions. However, he appealed to the court for leniency after the case’s details were presented.
During the court session, the prosecution requested the suspects’ remand to allow the police to conduct further investigations into the matter.
