The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has decided to reopen the outpatient department of its Renal Dialysis Unit on Monday, November 6.
This decision follows a meeting held on Friday, November 3, where it was unanimously agreed upon.
The Renal Dialysis Unit had been closed to outpatients since May 22, 2023, necessitating patients to seek dialysis services in private hospitals. An earlier partial reopening in September had seen a significant price increase, causing public concern.
The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, had directed the unit’s reopening, but it wasn’t promptly implemented. Regrettably, 19 outpatients from the renal unit have died since its closure due to financial issues.
