Founder and spiritual leader of Anointed Palace Chapel International, Rev. Obofour, has involved himself in the current dispute over the selection of a new chief for Offinso.
In a video spotted by GhanaWeb, the clergyman, reportedly a native of the Ashanti town, made a resolute declaration that Dr. KK Sarpong, the former head of the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) who has been put forth as a candidate for the chieftaincy, will never ascend to the position of chief in Offinso.
“There’s someone out there who believes he is mightier than all, he has been outdoored and he thinks he will be chief of Offinso but that’s a lie.
“His name will be mentioned alright and he can use all the power he has but he can never assume the Offinso stool. Because your claim to chieftaincy lies with where your mother was buried, you can go and make your claim there. As for the the Offinso stool, you will never have it whether you are KK. Whoever or KK whatever.
“You will never be chief of Offinso as far as my life and my soul lives and the truth lies with Manhyia Palace,” he added.
The nominee for the Offinso stool, Dr. KK Sarpong, selected by the town’s queen mother, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko, has faced rejection from Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu.
Despite being chosen by the kingmakers of the Offinso Traditional Area to succeed the late Paramount Chief, Nana Wiafe Akenten II, Dr. Sarpong’s nomination has sparked a conflict involving Manhyia Palace, Offinso’s elders, and his kinsmen, following the decision by the Ashanti Kingdom’s overlord to disapprove of his candidacy.
