A suspect, Kwabena Dennis, remanded into police custody in Kenyasi, Asutifi North District, Ahafo Region, managed to escape from police cells.
Scheduled to appear at the Kenyasi Circuit Court on January 17, 2024, for charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, stealing, causing damage, unlawful entry, stealing, and possession of a firearm without authority, Dennis escaped before his court appearance.
Reportedly, Dennis threatened officers with a machete and bit an officer on the cheek while attempting to prevent his escape.
Charging towards the police station exit with a cutlass, he eluded Sergeant Kusi Michael’s pursuit, who attempted to physically restrain him.
Details reveal negligence on the part of the police officers in charge, Sergeant Kusi Michael and Constable Victoria Antwi, for failing to inspect the facility thoroughly and properly secure all doors.
They now face a ten-day deadline to produce the escaped prisoner or be subject to disciplinary action, alongside ongoing investigations.
