A driver and a Kasoa resident have been apprehended for allegedly assaulting a police officer following a dispute over an unauthorized increase in transport fare.
Law enforcement officials report that a passenger filed a complaint at Kasoa Central Business District, alleging that a driver had attacked him when he refused to pay the new fare imposed by the Concerned Drivers Association.
According to Jonathan Ayitey, an eyewitness speaking to Adom News, a police officer detained the driver, who operates at the Kasoa lorry station.
The driver, resisting arrest, purportedly slapped the police officer during the altercation.
Subsequently, another civilian, displeased with the situation, was also arrested after making threats to organize a group to confront the police officers.
Additional drivers, perceiving an injustice against their colleague, converged on the police station.
To control the escalating situation, the police officers on duty resorted to using pepper spray to disperse the agitated drivers.
As of now, both the driver and the resident are in police custody.
