Collaborating with VinFast, Jospong Group will spearhead the deployment of public charging infrastructure across Ghana and the wider sub-region to facilitate the adoption of EVs.

Operating across 14 different sectors with a network of over 60 companies, the Jospong Group holds a prominent presence in industries such as automobile, waste management, ICT, and banking.

In addition to the distribution agreement, Vingroup, Vietnam’s leading private conglomerate and parent company of VinFast, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jospong Group. Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of Jospong Group, commenting on the deal, said: “The Vingroup’s commitment to a green revolution, particularly through their innovative electric vehicle ecosystem and VinFast’s diverse offerings, aligns with the Group’s mission of improving the lives of people through innovation, sustainability and empowerment. We are thrilled to partner with Vingroup and VinFast on their global journey, working together to build a more sustainable and beautiful future for all, adding that this partnership is inspiring”.

Mr. Steve Tran, Chief Operation Officer of VinFast North America shared: “Ghana and West African electric vehicles market is poised to grow and we’re honoured to be at the forefront of this revolution alongside a leading Ghanaian corporation.

“Together, we’re committed to building a sustainable future for Ghana by providing a comprehensive electric transportation ecosystem, from bicycles and cars to buses with flexible sales, ensuring everyone can join the clean transportation revolution.”

The electric vehicle market in Ghana and West Africa is set to expand significantly, driven by increasing demand and government initiatives aimed at achieving net-zero emissions in transportation.

By 2040, Ghana envisions repurposing a substantial portion of gas stations to accommodate sustainable transportation alternatives, including electric vehicles.

Recently, Ghana introduced an Energy Transition Framework under the National Electric Vehicle Policy, aiming to decarbonize the energy sector.

This framework, spanning 2022–2070, will complement existing initiatives and introduce additional measures, such as boosting renewable energy penetration, transitioning thermal plants to natural gas, and integrating nuclear power.

The collaboration with Jospong Group offers Vingroup and VinFast a significant opportunity to establish a strong presence in the regional electric vehicle market and lead the broader sustainable transportation industry.

This agreement aligns with Ghana’s commitment to implementing climate change measures to mitigate its adverse effects and ensure sustainable socio-economic development.

In accordance with the Paris Agreement and UNFCCC decisions, Ghana has updated its Nationally Determined Contributions, covering the period from 2020 to 2030, taking into account its specific circumstances.

Recognizing the significance of the energy and transport sectors in emissions mitigation, Ghana prioritizes promoting their transition toward net-zero emissions to contribute to global greenhouse gas reduction and achieve decarbonization, energy access, security, and efficiency.

Electric vehicles offer excellent opportunities for Ghana to accelerate development and promote sustainable pathways.

The National Electric Vehicle Policy will play a crucial role in driving widespread adoption, supported by the removal of import duties on electric vehicles and components in the 2024 National Budget.
