Jadon Sancho is rapidly running out of time to issue an apology to Erik ten Hag, and there’s a growing sentiment within Manchester United that his future at Old Trafford may already be in jeopardy, sources have informed ESPN.
Despite the passage of time, Sancho has yet to offer an apology after publicly accusing Ten Hag of dishonesty regarding his omission from the lineup before the 3-1 loss to Arsenal on September 3rd.
Ten Hag has requested that the 23-year-old extend his apologies both privately and with a public statement, but so far, Sancho has been hesitant to do so.
Reports suggesting that Sancho had made an immediate apology following the incident, which was not accepted, have been debunked by a source.
According to an individual close to the situation, Ten Hag has not completely ruled out the possibility of reintegrating Sancho into the team.
However, there is a consensus within the club that an apology offered at this point—over a month after his social media post—would not carry the same weight as one delivered during initial discussions with Ten Hag following the Arsenal match.
Sancho is currently following an individual training regimen at United’s Carrington training facility and has minimal interaction with the senior squad.
On Saturday, while the first team prepared for their 2-1 victory over Brentford at Old Trafford, he watched the under-18 team at Carrington.
Sancho, who was signed in a £73 million ($89 million) deal from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, is under contract until at least 2026. Concerns have arisen within the club about the potential financial implications of his departure if a decision is made for him to leave in January.
His market value has significantly declined after two largely underwhelming seasons at United, and few clubs worldwide would be capable of matching his salary, which exceeds £300,000 per week.
Sources have revealed that Sancho’s England teammates, including Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, and Luke Shaw, have encouraged him to apologize and begin the process of working his way back into the team.
Nevertheless, there are concerns that the ongoing situation is impacting team morale, and a resolution, one way or another, must be reached sooner rather than later.
