Is Dangote your business partner? – Atik asks Cecilia Dapaah

A former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has joined scores of Ghanaians questioning the source of wealth of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah, following the astonishing discovery of over one million dollars (US$1m) at the home of the former Minister.

Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrokoo, Mr Mohammed expressed profound bewilderment over such a colossal sum of money in the former Minister’s home, arguing that the Minister ought to be a business partner of Aliko Dangote in order to attain such wealth.

“This is irrepressible on all accounts and I am interested because she’s a Minister of state, because she is a public servant. To acquire such huge sums of money it’s either two things; you’re engaged in a business and have been paid or you inherited it. Either way there are issues; reason why I have been asking whether Dangote is her business partner,” Mr Mohammed said.

Five individuals are facing charges for their alleged involvement in stealing millions of dollars and euros from the minister’s house at Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra.

Following this, she resigned on July 23, 2023, explaining that it was to prevent the matter from becoming a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time.

Despite the assurance of availing herself for investigations, she has come under heavy scrutiny.

Many Ghanaians have also been commenting on the development, including General Manager for Citi TV and Citi FM, Bernard Avle who has urged the state to take up this matter and ensure it is thoroughly investigated, without any form of politicisation.

“Let’s not politicise it with claims that it will make the government look bad. Already, you [the government] are smelling bad. If we are serious about this let’s not politicise it,” he added.
