Inter Miami have decided to end the contract of goalkeeper Nick Marsman, a few weeks after his expression of doubt regarding Lionel Messi’s transfer to the club.
In June, Marsman voiced reservations about the adequacy of Inter Miami’s facilities to accommodate a player of Lionel Messi’s calibre, questioning the club’s infrastructure.
He told ESPN: “I personally think that this club is not ready for Messi’s arrival. We have a temporary stadium; people can just walk on the pitch; there are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready. But I hope he comes.”
After expressing reservations about the club’s decision to acquire the Argentine superstar, Marsman had his contract terminated by Inter Miami in the weeks that followed.
Since his official arrival at the club last month, Messi has made a remarkable impact in the United States, tallying seven goals in four matches for the team thus far.
His double against FC Dallas in the League Cup round of 16 elevated him to the joint-fourth position on the club’s list of all-time highest goal scorers.
The 32-year-old Dutch goalkeeper joined the MLS team in 2021, amassing 29 appearances during his time with the club.
Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, is scheduled to compete next on August 10 in the League Cup quarterfinals.
