The Chairman of the Automobile Dealers Union of Ghana, Kwaku Boateng, has officially declared his candidacy to challenge the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson, for the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary ticket in the Awutu Senya East constituency.
Mr Boateng is confident in his ability to secure a 90% victory in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Despite being a first-time contender, Mr Boateng is determined to represent the NPP in the 2024 general elections. He sees the incumbent MP’s dwindling popularity as a potential risk for losing the seat to the opposition National Democratic Congress and believes that a new leader is needed to reshape the constituency’s trajectory for the collective benefit of its residents.
Boateng’s campaign strategy focuses on talent and youth development, aiming to tap into the potential of the youth in the constituency. He has submitted his nomination forms and is actively working to garner support for his candidacy.
In contrast, Mavis Hawa Koomson, the incumbent MP, has also filed her nominations and is seeking an overwhelming endorsement from delegates on January 27, 2024. She emphasizes her potential to break the “eight-year cycle” and positions herself as the best candidate to represent the NPP in the constituency.
Boateng, during a visit to the Odukpong Ofaakor Palace to seek permission and blessings from traditional authorities for campaigning, expressed optimism for victory. The traditional authorities urged all candidates to maintain a respectful campaign without resorting to insults, and the NPP party leadership has assured equal opportunities for all candidates during the contest.
