NPP presidential aspirant and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, says he is the reason behind President Akufo-Addo’s decision to appoint Mavis Hawa Koomson as Minister for Fisheries.
During a live radio interview on Kastle FM, Cape Coast, Mr. Agyapong explained that Afenyo-Markin, the MP for Efuttu was denied the Fisheries Minister position due to an issue involving an agriculture bank. As a result, the president rejected his appointment, and the role was subsequently awarded to Mavis Hawa Koomson.
Kennedy Agyapong reiterated his position, asserting that he played a pivotal role in supporting major initiatives championed by Hawa Koomson, the current Minister for Fisheries.
He contended that without his support, she would not have been able to secure any political role, as her voice would have gone unheard.
“How would Hawa Koomson, who was based in the central region have gotten such a position. I was the one who created special initiatives for her. Anyone who is being considered for a ministerial position has to go through me,” he said.
He continued, “Are you saying Hawa Koomson could launch campaigns in the Central Region without me? Who will listen to her?” he questioned.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is presently in the process of selecting its official flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general elections, scheduled for December 2024.
In this contest, Kennedy Agyapong faces off against Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister for Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimo.
The NPP has set the date for its national delegates conference on November 4 to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
