A Chinese firm has generously contributed Ground Artillery Equipment (GAE) to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Battle Training Camp in Bundase.
The donation, a significant step to reinforce Ghana’s defense capabilities, was presented by Mr. Gu Jia, the Division Director of MESSRS Poly Technologies Incorporated, China, on December 7, 2023.
Accompanied by representatives from B&G African Trading, Mr. Gu Jia handed over a suite of newly acquired equipment to the GAF, including 122 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), one Reconnaissance Vehicle, one Command Vehicle, along with 7200x122mm rockets, spare parts, and essential accessories.
Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Michael Appiah-Agyekum, the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) in-charge of Administration at the General Headquarters, expressed sincere gratitude as the Guest of Honour.
He acknowledged the companies’ invaluable support in fortifying Ghana’s defense system and highlighted the crucial role of the equipment in enhancing and safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.
AVM Michael Appiah-Agyekum emphasized that ongoing efforts, including acquiring strategic equipment and personnel training, aim to resource the GAF operationally and provide essential welfare packages for troops during their service.
He noted the critical timing of the equipment acquisition, aligning with a period of increased terrorism and trans-organized crime in the sub-region. AVM Appiah-Agyekum stressed that the equipment would significantly bolster the operational capabilities of the GAF, positioning it effectively to handle any aggressive force.
Brigadier General Barima Brako Owusu, the Chief Staff Officer at Army Headquarters, urged troops to uphold a high level of professionalism in their duties and emphasized the importance of proper maintenance for the newly acquired GAE.
