National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), has questioned the authenticity of reports suggesting that the outgoing Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been given a new appointment.
Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show, Kokrokoo, Nana B noted that there has not been any official communication in that regard, therefore, such reports cannot be trusted.
His comments were in reaction to concerns raised by the Managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, over Mr Ofori-Atta’s said appointment.
Mr Pratt, who was baffled by the fact that President Akufo-Addo is seeking to offer the Finance Minister another role, which appears to be bigger than his previous position, despite relieving him of his Finance Minister role.
More baffling, Mr Pratt asserted is the fact that some Members of Parliament (MPs) belonging to the New Patriotic Party called for the head of the Minister over claims that he is incompetent.
“I am a bit worried about something, NPP MPs said they didn’t want Ken Ofori-Atta, so he should be sacked. Then the president intervened, saying he had work for him, so they should take their time; when he finishes, he will vacate the position.
“So, is he gone now, or is he still at post? If you look at the government structure, both Ofori-Atta and Osafo Maafo hold the same position. Ofori-Atta is a senior advisor on finance and the economy, and additionally, he is a special envoy for the international financial economy. Which position is bigger than this?” he said.
While making his case, Nana B reacted, challenging the authenticity of the reports.
“Have you seen any letter from the presidency indicating his appointment?,” he mounted a strong defense, however, Mr Pratt stood his ground, asserting that he had seen a lot to prove that the reports could be true, especially with reports on pro-NPP media outlet, Asaase radio.
In response, Nana B asked if Asaase radio was Eugene Arhin’s office?
“No, it is not Eugene Arhin’s office. But our brother Gabby Otchere Darko is very instrumental in the affairs of the government, so I will believe any news coming from his stations unless it has been disproved,” Kwesi Pratt replied.
