A video circulating on social media features a representative of Ghanaian musician Hajia4Reall providing additional information about her romance scam case.
Hajia4Reall, whose real name is Mona Faiz Montrage, pleaded guilty to laundering proceeds from multiple romance scams. This was announced on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, by Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
In an official statement, Williams explained that Montrage pled guilty to conspiracy to receive stolen money before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave. He emphasized that Montrage knowingly received funds stolen from elderly Americans through romance scams and now faces significant consequences.
Williams highlighted the severe impact of such scams on vulnerable, elderly victims, noting the cruel betrayal of trust and financial loss they suffered. He affirmed the commitment of his office and law enforcement partners to pursue justice against fraudsters targeting Americans, regardless of their location.
Additionally, the report disclosed that Hajia4Reall agreed to pay forfeiture and restitution totaling $2,164,758.41.
Latest development indicate Hajia4real’s sentencing is set for June 28th, 2024.
