The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has announced the commencement of field data collection for the 2024 Ghana Integrated Business Establishment Survey Phase I (IBES I) as of January 15, 2024.
This marks the initiation of a crucial survey phase involving the deployment of approximately fourteen thousand (14,000) trained Field Officers across the country. The focus of IBES I is to comprehensively enumerate all business entities within Ghana.
During the field data collection period, Field Officers will diligently visit every structure and space in their assigned areas, covering a wide spectrum of business entities.
This includes businesses operating in structures, open spaces, mobile businesses, and virtual businesses. The survey aims to encompass all business activities in Ghana, irrespective of location, status, or size.
The overarching objective of IBES I is to compile a detailed business list, capturing essential characteristics essential for developing a robust Statistical Business Register and other key statistical indicators crucial for national development. Key aspects that IBES I will address include:
- Gathering information on activities, locations, ownership, ages, and sizes of businesses to inform policy, planning, and monitoring of business growth and national development programs.
- Assessing the current structure of Ghana’s economy to facilitate the revision of key macroeconomic indicators such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Producer Price Index (PPI), and the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
- Examining the employment status of workers employed by businesses to bridge the gap between firm labor needs and available skills.
- Identifying characteristics of the informal sector to guide the development of policies aimed at formalizing the economy and improving the welfare of workers in various sectors.
The General Public is advised that Field Officers will be easily identifiable through their Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES) Vests and Identification Cards. Cooperation from the public is encouraged to provide the necessary information, ensuring the success of this vital national data collection exercise.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) expressed gratitude to institutions, organizations, and individuals for the support received and requests further cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of this significant national endeavor.
