Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey in April 2023 initiated the construction of a state-of-the-art open-air amphitheater in Kumasi.

He stated that the project, part of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto commitment to build five amphitheaters nationwide, would be completed by July 2023.

“This amphitheater is set to begin construction imminently and should be ready by the end of July 2023. I repeat, we are breaking ground in the next 10 to 15 minutes, and by July 2023, it should be ready,” he confirmed.

As the NPP administration approaches its end, the promised open-air amphitheater in Kumasi remains incomplete.

However, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the minister-designate for Tourism and Arts, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, met with creatives at Quarshie Idun Hall in the Kumasi Cultural Center to address the delays surrounding the amphitheater.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer assured attendees that the amphitheater would be completed before December 2024, emphasizing that the Akufo-Addo-led administration is committed to ensuring the completion of the Kumasi Amphitheater.
