Gospel musicians receive inadequate compensation for their performances- Philipa Baafi

Renowned gospel singer Philipa Baafi recently spoke out about the concerning issue of inadequate compensation for gospel musicians following their performances.

In an interview with DJ Toxic on Neat FM’s “My Praise,” Baafi highlighted the financial challenges faced by gospel artists, emphasizing the lack of financial care and recognition despite their dedication to their craft.

Baafi noted that this lack of financial incentives has contributed to a decline in gospel music, with many talented artists leaving the genre.

She shared an incident where an instrumentalist confronted a musician over non-payment after a performance, illustrating the ongoing financial struggles within the industry.

Expressing her dismay at the exploitation of gospel musicians by event organizers who fail to compensate them fairly, Baafi revealed that many musicians have switched to secular genres due to insufficient support.

“Many secular musicians started in the church but left because they were not properly supported,” Philipa Baafi revealed.

She pointed out that despite the significant investment gospel musicians make in their careers, they often receive minimal returns as their work is seen as a service to God.

Baafi also highlighted the financial hardships faced by aging musicians, attributing their public appeals for assistance to the industry’s inadequate funding.

Her call for fair recognition and support for gospel musicians underscores the need for a more equitable compensation system within the gospel music industry.
