GFA to offer extended contract to next Black Stars coach

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA),Kurt Okraku, revealed plans to extend a long-term contract to the incoming Black Stars coach.

This declaration came during a press briefing in Kumasi, where Okraku addressed the nation’s dissatisfaction with Ghana’s performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

As GFA President for over four years, Okraku is spearheading the search for the team’s fifth head coach.

“When we find the new set of trainers, it is our collective decision to stay with them for the long haul and all our national teams,” he stated.

Following Ghana’s disappointing exit from the tournament, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) decided to part ways with Chris Hughton and his coaching staff, signalling the start of the search for a new coach.

To streamline the process, the GFA formed a five-member search committee assigned to identify the new coach within a three-week period.

The committee reportedly received over 600 applications for the position.

Ghana’s premature exit from the tournament occurred after the team finished third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars faced a setback with a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, followed by consecutive 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, ultimately leading to their elimination from the competition
