Frema Opare among list of Bawumia’s potential running mate

The competition to determine the most suitable running mate for the recently elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is intensifying, with various names being proposed, including Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Joe Osei Wusu, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, and Yaw Osei Adutwum.

However, one prominent name that stands out in the ongoing discussion is Akosua Frema Osei Opare, the current Chief of Staff in Ghana. Potential candidates and their interests are being scrutinized, and Akosua Frema Osei Opare is gaining attention due to her background in human development and her extensive support for the youth.

As Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare has been actively involved in supporting and training young people, providing educational assistance, and offering start-up capital for those engaging in trades and skill development. Her commitment to youth empowerment has extended to supporting the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) with new modules and programs.

Political observers note her competencies and temperament, citing her excellent management of the Chief of Staff office as evidence of her capabilities. Her calm disposition, untainted character, and ability to handle responsibilities are seen as qualities that make her an ideal running mate candidate.

Akosua Frema Osei Opare has already made history as the first female Chief of Staff in Ghana, appointed in 2017, and her second term mandate in 2021 further solidifies her position as the highest-ranking female politician in the country. With a political career that began in 2004, she has also served as a Member of Parliament, winning three terms.

Beyond her political achievements, Akosua Frema Osei Opare has an impressive academic background, holding a BSc in Home Economics from the University of Ghana and a Master of Science in Foods from Guelph University in Canada. Her professional experience includes working with international organizations such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation.
