Gospel artist Piesie Esther and media figure Serwaa Amihere recently discussed their responses to the false reports of Serwaa’s arrest by the police.
On October 14, 2024, Blogger Nkonkonsa shared a screenshot of a video showing Serwaa in handcuffs and being escorted by police, claiming she had been arrested.
The post quickly ignited a flurry of reactions on social media. However, the Ghana Police Service soon clarified that the reports were inaccurate, revealing that the video was actually from a music video shoot featuring Piesie Esther.
During an interview on GhOne TV on October 18, 2024, the two opened up about how the rumours spread and how they felt about the situation.
Piesie Esther recalled her shock upon first learning about the news while she was live on a radio station.
“By the time I came out of the studio, there were a lot of calls and messages. Then I started flipping out, ‘What is going on here?’” she said.
She was puzzled about how the picture ended up on a popular blog site. Concerned for her friend, Piesie Esther immediately called Serwaa Amihere to check on her.
Serwaa reassured her, saying, “Oh, sis, don’t worry. It’s nothing. Don’t worry. You calm down.”
When asked by the interviewer if she was bothered by the rumours of her arrest, Serwaa confidently said she wasn’t, stressing, “Because I was not.”
The interviewer then enquired if Serwaa felt relieved when the Ghana Police Service issued a communiqué clarifying that she had not been arrested.
Serwaa humorously replied, “I didn’t know I was that important,” followed by a laugh.
Piesie Esther added that she wasn’t concerned about the misinformation, stating, “We knew what was in the post. We knew that it was just a video. So I wasn’t bothered about it.”
