Renowned filmmaker and CEO of Oldfilm Productions, Peter Sedufia has passionately appealed to governing film authorities, emphasizing the importance of avoiding the implementation of laws and policies that could hinder the progress of the film industry during the third Graphic Showbiz Forum held at the Multichoice office in Accra.
Mr. Sedufia acknowledged the necessity of proper regulations and guidelines within any sector to foster discipline and coordination. However, he urged the relevant authorities to exercise caution in their quest for structuring and regulation, as certain policies, though currently non-functional, could potentially impede the growth and prosperity of the film sector once enforced.
Highlighting the significance of having guidelines in place, Mr. Sedufia emphasized that regulation plays a vital role in establishing order and accountability. It ensures a well-functioning system that can drive the industry towards its desired state. Without proper regulations, chaos and uncertainty prevail, which hinder potential investments in the industry.
While appreciating the benefits of these policies, Sedufia expressed concerns that they should not become barriers to the sector’s growth. He disclosed engaging in conversations with the leadership of NFA (presumably the National Film Authority) regarding their proposed policies and laws, expressing hopes that they would not inadvertently cripple the film industry.
With an illustrious portfolio of works, including Aloe Vera, Sidechic Gang, and Keteke, Sedufia emphasized the global appreciation for relevant and compelling content, emphasizing that those who fail to align with industry standards may find themselves left behind in this fast-paced and competitive landscape.
