A former winner of Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, Sally Akua Amoakowaa, known as Akua GMB, has reflected on her decision to marry at a young age, expressing regret over her choices.
In a recent interview, she revealed that if given the chance to turn back time, she would not have tied the knot at just 22.
Akua GMB articulated her belief that she entered marriage too early, without having fully explored life or taken the time to understand herself.
“If I had had the opportunity to change something in my life ten years ago, I think it would have been me not getting married. I sometimes feel I got married too early. I got married at the age of 22.
“Then, I hadn’t discovered who I was. I hadn’t explored the world, and I didn’t know me. So, that decision, I think, wasn’t a good one for me”, she said.
As the CEO of Jewel Fashion, Akua GMB clarified that while she doesn’t discourage young women from marrying early, she emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and understanding the meaning of marriage.
“If the person thinks she knows who she is, she understands what she is getting herself into, she is ready for the task ahead, of course, why not? You can go ahead and get married”, she said.
After winning the 2011 Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, Akua GMB became the fourth wife of Dr. Kweku Oteng.
Their marriage lasted nearly eight years, ending in divorce in 2019, and they share three children together.
