Canadian superstar Drake has suffered a $300,000 loss after Canada was defeated 2-0 by Argentina in the Copa America semifinal.
With total odds of 9.60, Drake stood to win an estimated $2.88 million had Canada emerged victorious over the reigning world champions, Argentina.
Drake shared his bet slip on Instagram, playfully captioning it with: “This could get Messi @stake.” This marks Drake’s second betting loss this year, following a $565,000 loss in May when Tyson Fury was defeated by Oleksandr Usyk.
Lionel Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, and Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez scored the goals that secured Argentina’s victory at New York’s MetLife Stadium.
Argentina will face the winner of the semifinal clash between Uruguay and Colombia, which will take place on Wednesday, July 10.
The highly anticipated final is set for Sunday, July 14, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Meanwhile, Canada will compete for third place against the loser of the Uruguay vs. Colombia match.
