Presidential hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has entreated electorates not to cast their ballots for politicians who send their wards abroad to study and pay huge sums of fees.
He made the statement while addressing party faithful during his tour of Keta Constituency in the Volta Region today, June 14, 2023.
According to Mr Agyapong, such politicians seek better lives for their wards while the child of the average Ghanaian suffers. Thus entreating Ghanaians not to leave the running of the country in the hands of such individuals.
“Let’s put everything aside and think of a man who cares for the country. A man who thinks about the future of the youth. A man who thinks about the development of the country and not those people you call for – they take the money outside the country, go and pay expensive school fees for their children whiles you suffer,” he said.
It is however important to note that the majority of Mr Agyapong’s children have had their education outside the country.
One of Mr Agyapong’s children, Kenneth Takyi Agyapong, lived in the United States of America where he completed United State University with a Doctorate degree.
His daughter, Yvonne, is said to have studied at Union Catholic High School, a private Catholic high school located in Scotch Plains, in Union County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.
In a recent on Peace FM, Mr Agyapong noted that he is unhappy about the living conditions of Ghanaian graduates who are jobless when his children are faring much better after completing school in the US.
“The most important thing is how we will create jobs for the youth in this country because I feel guilty that my children in America finished school and are gainfully employed. But here, the youth finish university and have no jobs to do,” he said.
For some school of thought, politicians who opt to send their children abroad for education purpose do so as they do not trust the quality of education in the country.
