David Cameron travels to Ukraine for the first time

The new Foreign Secretary David Cameron went to Ukraine for the first time to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

Lord Cameron repeated that the UK is backing Ukraine and will give them moral, diplomatic, and most importantly, military support. No matter how much time it takes.

Mr Zelensky said congrats to Mr Cameron for his new job and thanked him for the UK’s support.

Lord Cameron got a new job as the foreign secretary on Monday when the cabinet got changed.

The Ukrainian president said it’s really important now for everyone to focus on what’s happening in Ukraine, instead of getting distracted by other things, like what’s happening in the Middle East.

“We are thankful for Ukraine’s strong support from the UK. ” We are happy for the friendly greeting from people from Ukraine in the UK. “We’re happy you visited Ukraine,” he said.

Mr Zelensky put a short video of the meeting on social media. In the video, Lord Cameron said, “I wanted this to be my first visit. ”

Lord Cameron said that he wants to let everyone know that they will keep helping with moral support, diplomatic support, economic support, and military support for as long as it’s needed, not just for a year or two, but for as long as it takes.

The old leader of the UK said, “I’ve had some arguments with Boris Johnson, we’ve known each other for 40 years, but his support for you was the best thing he and his government did. ”

Ukraine’s foreign ministry said the two people talked about weapons, making weapons, and keeping the Black Sea safe.

Lord Cameron said: “As the cold season comes, we support the people of Ukraine as they fight against Putin’s invasion. ” In the past three months, they made Russia move away from the Black Sea and are helping Ukraine’s economy and global food trade routes.

The UK has given Ukraine lots of money for weapons since Russia attacked in February 2022.

The British military has given Ukraine tanks, missiles, and trained many soldiers on British land.

Lord Cameron is going to visit Ukraine after their army made progress by getting across the Dnipro river in the south. This is an important move for them. Officials in the area controlled by Russia said on Wednesday that Ukrainian soldiers were in the village of Krynky, on the side of the river that Russia took over.

The river has kept Ukrainian and Russian forces apart since Moscow’s soldiers left Kherson a year ago.

The news has given hope to Ukrainians, who have been trying for four months to win back land from Russia but have not been successful.

Cameron is coming back.

Lord Cameron is back in the cabinet after more than seven years.

He took over from James Cleverly, who is now the home secretary, in a big change to Rishi Sunak’s cabinet on Monday.

Lord Cameron was the leader of the UK from 2010 to 2016. He quit his job after the UK voted to leave the EU because he had supported staying in the EU.

Since then, Lord Cameron has been keeping busy with different business projects, charity work, teaching, and public speaking.

There is some disagreement about Lord Cameron joining the cabinet because he is not an elected Member of Parliament anymore and will serve as a peer in the House of Lords instead of the House of Commons.

Opposition parties and Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle are worried about how MPs will be able to question Lord Cameron since he won’t be in the Commons chamber for the regular scrutiny sessions.

Instead, other government officials at the Foreign Office, like Andrew Mitchell and Anne-Marie Trevelyan, will answer those questions instead of him. Deputies often fill in for the department’s leader when they are away on diplomatic trips.
