Court of Appeal has denied Mr. Sammy Gyamfi’s request to postpone the enforcement of a judgement that ordered him to pay GH¢500,000 in damages and GH¢40,000 in costs for defamatory statements against Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
Mr. Gyamfi, the Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress, sought to challenge the High Court’s decision, but the Appellate Court upheld the lower court’s ruling.
The High Court, presided over by Justice Charles Gyamfi Danquah, had ordered Mr. Gyamfi to deposit the GH¢500,000 and GH¢40,000 costs into court.
This decision came after Mr. Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, filed a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Gyamfi for remarks made during a 2019 Political Press conference, where Mr. Gyamfi linked a kidnapping suspect to the Minister of Energy.
Now, efforts by Mr. Opoku Prempeh’s legal team, led by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, are underway to execute the High Court’s decision from October 13, 2022.
