CMB fire victims to receive temporary accommodation from NADMO

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is currently evaluating the situation at the CMB market in Accra to determine the appropriate assistance for the victims of Sunday’s fire incident.

Speaking to the media, the Klottey-Korle Municipal NADMO Director, Daniel Appiah, stated that temporary accommodation has been arranged for the fire victims by the Assembly.

The fire, which ignited around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, swept through hundreds of homes and shops, leaving numerous residents stranded.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) dispatched firefighters to the scene promptly, but the flames had already engulfed several shops by the time they arrived.The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

However, ADO1 Alex Nartey, a Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, revealed that several flammable items were discovered at the fire scene.

Upon extinguishing the fire, numerous shops had been completely devastated, and many traders expressed their frustration and despair, having lost everything.

Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, visited the CMB Market on Sunday afternoon to assess the extent of the damage.

It’s worth noting that this marks the second major fire incident at the CMB market in recent years, with a similar incident occurring in 2020, resulting in the destruction of over 200 shops.
