Borussia Dortmund is honoring former Ghanaian star Ibrahim Tanko as he celebrates his 46th birthday today, July 25.
The Accra Lions coach received well-wishes from the former German champions on Twitter.
Recently, Tanko showcased his footballing prowess in a Borussia Dortmund Legends game, where he scored and provided a lavish assist, garnering attention in Germany.
The event celebrating former Dortmund players was attended by Ghana coach Otto Addo and ex-teammate Mallam Yahaya, highlighting Tanko’s enduring impact on the club.
During his time with Dortmund from 1994 to 2001, Ibrahim Tanko was an integral part of the UEFA Champions League-winning squad in 1997 and secured two Bundesliga championships.
In a total of 71 appearances for the team, the Ghanaian attacker scored three goals and provided three assists, earning him respect and admiration in Germany.
He moved on to join Freiburg where he played until 2001.
Tanko after hanging his boots in 2007 ventured into coaching and has since then managed the Black Meteors and the Black Galaxies. He is currently the manager of Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions.
