In honour of Lionel Messi’s eighth Ballon d’Or win, Inter Miami has announced that he will be part of their lineup this offseason.
Messi, the extraordinary talent from Argentina, secured his eighth Golden Ball on Monday, thanks to his remarkable performances for Paris Saint-Germain and the national team.
Inter Miami, his current club, revealed their plans on Friday to mark this historic achievement by scheduling a friendly match. On November 10, Miami will go head-to-head with New York City FC, a fellow team in the Eastern Conference, in a “night full of festivities.”
The decision to pay tribute to Messi is a relief for Miami fans, who were uncertain about seeing the 36-year-old in action earlier this week.
The team, under the leadership of David Beckham, had to cancel their China tour on Wednesday due to apparent “commercial and bureaucratic issues.” Now, the gap in their schedule will be filled by the upcoming ‘Noche d’Or’ event.
Since his arrival in Miami in July, Messi has made a remarkable impact with 11 goals and eight assists in 14 appearances across all competitions.
Despite playing in only half of the campaign, he finished second in the MLS Newcomer of the Year award.
