“I am truly sorry” – KOKA apologizes to Ohemaa Mercy after GHC2,000 bail

Controversial entertainment figure Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, known as Koka, has publicly apologized to gospel artist Ohemaa Mercy following a serious incident.

Ohemaa Mercy had taken legal action against Koka, leading to his arrest after he allegedly made threats to harm her if she failed to repay an alleged debt.

Koka claimed he was owed GH¢8,000 and had tried unsuccessfully to collect the money, which prompted his threatening behavior toward the singer.

On September 26, 2024, during a court hearing, Koka was granted bail set at GH¢2,000 with one surety by the Accra Circuit Court.

In a statement on Facebook, Koka expressed his remorse for the situation and offered his apologies to Ohemaa Mercy and anyone else affected.

He said, “I am truly sorry for any harm or distress I may have caused. This is a lesson learned, and I am committed to moving forward positively,” he stated.

National Cathedral project set to resume – Board

Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, the Chairman of the Board for the National Cathedral project, has announced that construction will soon resume following a recent meeting with the Board of Directors and auditors from Deloitte on September 20.

The meeting aimed to update church leaders on the statutory audit report detailing the project’s financial activities from its inception through December 31, 2020. This audit was commissioned in light of growing public concerns regarding allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement related to the project.

With the completion of the audit, Apostle Onyinah stated that the path is now clear to restart construction. He emphasized that the audit was essential for ensuring transparency and rebuilding trust among church leaders and the Ghanaian public.

“The audit was a significant demand from both church leaders and the Ghanaian public to ensure transparency in the project’s implementation. With this report finalized, preparations are now in place to resume construction.

“We are grateful for your support so far and hope that the completion of the audit will encourage further prayers and financial contributions towards the National Cathedral project.”

He expressed gratitude for the support received thus far and hopes the audit’s conclusion will encourage more prayers and financial contributions to the National Cathedral project.

To date, Ghanaian taxpayers have invested $58 million into the project over the last seven years, but it remains unfinished as of August 2024. An estimated $450 million is still needed to complete construction, and it remains uncertain whether sufficient funds can be secured to achieve this goal.

By mid-2022, various church denominations had only contributed GH¢2.21 million (around $164,000), a figure that falls far short of the remaining financial requirements.

Police acknowledge unlawful detention of two protesters for over 48 Hours

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has confirmed that two protesters from the recent #ReoccupyJulorbiHouse and #StopGalamseyNow demonstrations, organized by Democracy Hub, were held in custody for over 48 hours. This comes after claims from demonstrators and others that several individuals were detained longer than legally permitted before being presented to the court.

In a statement released on September 26, the police described the situation as regrettable and announced an investigation by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) into why the two suspects were not taken to court in the required timeframe.

“At the Police Station, Police provided the child with food and for the sake of the child, her guardian, Grace Asantewaa, was granted a Police enquiry bail and allowed to go home with the child. The Ghana Poke Service has charged Grace Asantewaa with the offence of exposing a child to danger, by bringing her to the demonstration grounds, contrary to section 71 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29),” part of the statement read.

The police also addressed rumors about other individuals allegedly arrested during the protests, specifically a 12-year-old girl, a 68-year-old woman, and a pregnant woman. They clarified that the 68-year-old was, in fact, Grace Asantewaa, a 50-year-old woman who was accompanied by her child during the demonstration. To avoid separating the child from her, the police allowed both to stay together at the station, where they provided food for the child. Grace Asantewaa was released on police enquiry bail but is facing charges for endangering her child by bringing her to the protest, in violation of section 71 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

In related news, on September 26, the Accra Circuit Court ordered Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a key figure behind the #FixTheCountry movement, along with 12 other protesters, to remain in police custody for two weeks following their arrests during protests at the 37 Roundabout. Their demonstrations focused on issues like illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement.

NDC is sponsoring Democracy Hub demo, don’t be deceived – Gideon Boako

Gideon Boako, spokesperson for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has warned the public against being misled by what he perceives as a covert effort by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to stir discontent towards the government following the recent Democracy Hub protest.

Boako claimed that while the demonstration focused on illegal mining (galamsey), it serves a deeper political agenda aimed at destabilizing the current administration. During an interview with Peace FM on September 27, he emphasized that the timing of the protest occurring just months before the elections—suggests an intention to sway public opinion against the government for political gain.

He argued that although the issue of illegal mining is indeed serious, the NDC’s participation indicates motives beyond genuine environmental concern. Instead of utilizing protests to undermine the government, Boako urged stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions to collaboratively tackle the problem.

He cautioned citizens to remain vigilant about political figures who mask their true agendas under social or environmental pretenses, asserting that such strategies only create division and hinder progress in addressing the nation’s challenges.

“Don’t be deceived by the NDC’s latent attempt to hide behind those protesters to cause public disaffection to the government. They are politically motivated to do anything to get a back name for the government to achieve their political agenda.”

“Perish the thought should NDC come to power, should NDC come to power, all these guys leading the demonstration will have appointments in government.”

BoG launches Gold coin initiative to combat dollar hoarding

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has introduced the Ghana Gold Coin, an innovative investment option designed to curb dollar hoarding and enhance the strength of the local currency against major foreign currencies.

This initiative, part of a broader domestic gold program, aims to absorb excess liquidity from the market. The Ghana Gold Coin will be offered in three denominations: one ounce, half ounce, and a quarter ounce, and will be available for purchase at commercial banks within the next two weeks.

During the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on September 27, Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the BoG, stated that pricing details for the coins will soon be accessible on the BoG’s official website.

Manufactured from locally sourced dowry gold, the coins boast a remarkable purity of 99.99 percent and are both issued and guaranteed by the BoG. Each coin features the Ghana coat of arms on one side and the Independence Arch on the reverse.

To enhance the presentation, the gold coins will come packaged in a wooden story box with a transparent coin holder and a certificate of ownership. The introduction of the Ghana Gold Coin allows the BoG to effectively manage excess liquidity in the banking sector and complements existing BoG bills. This initiative also provides Ghanaian residents with a new investment opportunity within the framework of the BoG’s domestic gold purchase program, ultimately supporting the nation’s economic stability.

“The Ghana Gold Coin is manufactured from dowry gold dug out of Ghana which has been refined to 99.99 per cent purity. It is issued and guaranteed by the BoG.

“It will be available in three different units. That is the one-ounce coin, the half-ounce coin and the quarter-ounce coin to suit different investment dates. Each coin has the Ghana quote of arms in front and the independence arch at the back.

“The packing of the gold coin will be a wooden story box, a transparent coin holder and a certificate of ownership. The Ghana Gold enables the BoG to mop up extra liquidity from the banking sector and will supplement the use of our BoG bills… It gives savers residence in Ghana, an additional avenue to invest, and reap the benefits of the BoG domestic Gold purchase programme.”

The next MPC meeting is set for November 20-22, 2024, concluding with an announcement of policy decisions on November 25, 2024.

Everyone should have the opportunity to travel abroad – Teephlow

US-based Ghanaian rapper Teephlow recently voiced his concerns about the troubling situation in Ghana through a post on X, shedding light on the nation’s ongoing challenges.

His message struck a chord with many, as he expressed a deep sense of disillusionment with the country’s current state.

“It is my sincere hope that God will provide a solution, allowing everyone to leave Ghana and abandon the country.

“It is indeed disheartening to witness such circumstances,” Teephlow stated, highlighting the struggles many Ghanaians are grappling with.

Teephlow conveyed his hope for divine intervention, suggesting that people might eventually feel compelled to leave Ghana altogether due to the overwhelming hardships they face. His sentiments echo the frustration of many, particularly the youth, who are grappling with economic struggles and social uncertainty.

“If you are not diligent in managing your finances, you will face difficulties,” he warned, emphasizing the importance of financial awareness and responsibility.

He also highlighted the importance of financial prudence, cautioning that without careful money management, individuals are likely to experience difficulties.

His warning follows troubling reports of recent arrests related to protests against illegal mining, or “galamsey,” which has posed a significant threat to Ghana’s natural resources.

Dozens of protesters have been detained, including prominent activists, as tensions rise over the environmental impact of these activities.

While many arrests have been made, participation in demonstrations has dwindled, with only a few attending the final day of protests. Legal proceedings for those involved are still ongoing.

Protest through films, don’t hit the street – Adjetey Anang to actors

Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang has urged his fellow performers to prioritize depicting protest scenes in their films instead of engaging in real-life demonstrations.

In an interview with 3FM, the “Yolo” star argued that it isn’t “wise” for actors to hit the streets to express their dissent.

He noted that filmmakers have mastered the art of storytelling, allowing them to adapt narratives that resonate with audiences.

“We have learned to tell these stories so well; we adapt them and change certain lines for the audience to enjoy. However, there are serious issues happening out there that require our attention,” he said.

“We can craft protest roles in the stories we tell, and that’s the best way to make our voices heard, louder than simply hitting the streets,” he added.

His remarks were made in light of recent online calls for celebrities to participate in protests like #OccupyJulorbiHouse and #FreetheCitizens.

    Background:

The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters were arrested during their demonstration which took place in Accra.

The arrests followed a three-day protest at the 37 military Roundabout, where demonstrators raised concerns about illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement.

On Sunday, September 22, tensions escalated as a major confrontation occurred between protesters from Democracy Hub and the Ghana Police Service, marking the second day of the demonstrations.

The protesters have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court, facing five charges: conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, breach of public peace, and assault on public officers. They pleaded not guilty to all charges and are set to reappear in court on October 8, 2024.

My ex-husband told me I wasn’t family – Habiba Sinare

Habiba Sinare, the former wife of Black Stars striker Majeed Waris, has opened up about the reasons behind their marriage’s dissolution.

In a recent interview shared by MzGee in September 2024, she revealed that Waris consistently put his family first, a decision that caused her considerable distress as his partner.

When she brought up her concerns, Waris made it clear that he would always prioritize his family over her, which left Habiba feeling deeply wounded. She expressed that this declaration was a significant factor in their marriage’s end, even though they share a child.

Reflecting on their relationship, Habiba stated, “I always say that my child was meant to come into the world. He asked me, ‘Why won’t you come back?’ I told him, ‘I’m done. There’s nothing left. I don’t feel anything for you anymore.’ When I was leaving, he said he wouldn’t choose me over his family. That hurt me deeply.

“That sentence still echoes in my life. When he said that, I thought, ‘Wow, I wasn’t family after all.’ When you’re angry, you can say things that go too far. Sometimes you don’t mean them, but words are powerful. I’m someone who takes words seriously,” she said in a video shared by MzGee on Facebook.

Habiba highlighted the weight of words, noting that in moments of anger, people can say things they don’t truly mean.

Waris and Habiba married in 2017 but separated after just sixteen months. Following their split, reports indicated that Waris faced challenges in accessing his son, while Habiba allegedly withdrew from him during their marriage, contributing to their conflicts.

Additionally, Habiba is the daughter of Alhaji Sinare, a former NDC Member of Parliament and Ghana’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and the niece of well-known actress Kalsoum Sinare.

Kelvyn Boy sounded disrespectful – Merqury Quaye on Stonebwoy reconciliation

Media personality Merqury Quaye has voiced his concerns about Kelvyn Boy‘s recent remarks regarding his attempts to mend ties with his former mentor and label head, Stonebwoy. Quaye criticized the tone and attitude Kelvyn Boy displayed during the discussion, suggesting it came off as disrespectful.

“I don’t know the full details of the issue between him and Stonebwoy, but listening to his tone, it’s clear there is disrespect,” he stated on Hitz FM.

While he acknowledged that he wasn’t privy to all the intricacies of their conflict, Quaye pointed out that Kelvyn Boy’s demeanor failed to convey the respect owed to someone who had supported him in his career.

He suggested that the artist should have shown appreciation when asked about the reconciliation.

Quaye cautioned that Kelvyn Boy’s current attitude could undermine any potential for healing the rift with Stonebwoy.

He emphasized that respect is essential for anyone who has significantly contributed to one’s success, stating, “A person who has held your hand and done great things for you deserves respect. His tone didn’t reflect someone trying to make peace; he didn’t sound remorseful,” Merqury Quaye stated.

For context, Kelvyn Boy and Stonebwoy collaborated on the track “Na You” in 2018, which has since amassed over 1.3 million views on YouTube.

The two artists parted ways in January 2019 after Kelvyn Boy’s conduct during his time with Burniton Music Group reportedly caused friction, leading to Stonebwoy’s decision not to renew their contract.

Musical rivalries can enhance an artist’s relevance – Strongman Burner

Ghanaian rapper Strongman Burner, whose real name is Osei Kwaku Vincent, recently shared his views on the role of rivalries in maintaining relevance in the music industry.

In an interview with Onua FM, he emphasized that while musical feuds can generate buzz and keep artists in the spotlight, it’s crucial for musicians to manage their public image carefully.

Strongman pointed out that although being talked about can enhance an artist’s visibility, it’s vital to avoid negative headlines, as these can have detrimental long-term effects on one’s career.

He noted, “It has some side effects. No serious company or brand will want to associate with you if you have a bad tag on your name or brand. You trend for some time after a bad publication but the side effects are wild. You can still stay relevant if you stay on the positive side”.

Brands are unlikely to partner with you if your image is tainted. You might trend for a while due to controversy, but the consequences can be severe.

It’s possible to maintain relevance by focusing on positive initiatives.”

I own many assets, but I prefer not to brag – Kelvyn Boy

Kelvyn Boy, whose real name is Kelvyn Brown, recently shared details about his life in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM.

He expressed pride in living in a three-bedroom home he built for his family, stating, “I constructed my own house, and that’s where I stay with my family.”

While he mentioned owning additional properties in Accra, he prefers to maintain a humble lifestyle, saying, “I have other properties in Accra, but I don’t feel the need to show off like others do.” This highlights his preference for privacy and modesty.

Kelvyn Boy also discussed his active involvement in his children’s lives, emphasizing that he ensures they are well cared for every morning.

His commitment to family is a significant part of his daily routine.

Reflecting on his relationship with Stonebwoy, Kelvyn Boy acknowledged the difficulties in reconciling with his former mentor. “I’ve tried to make peace with Stonebwoy, but it hasn’t worked out,” he shared, recognizing the lingering tension between them.

Their relationship deteriorated after Kelvyn Boy left Burniton Music Group (BMG) in 2019, a split that stemmed from accusations of ingratitude towards Stonebwoy, who had played a pivotal role in his career.

Rumors circulated that Kelvyn Boy was distancing himself from Stonebwoy and pursuing his career independently, which further strained their connection.

Following his exit from BMG, the two artists publicly parted ways, with Stonebwoy confirming that Kelvyn Boy was no longer associated with the label.

They revealed that he had been dealing with health issues for a while, including a severe throat condition that made it difficult for him to eat or drink.

This ailment persisted even during his birthday celebration, which took place just days before his passing.

“He hadn’t been well for a while now, even on the day he was celebrating his birthday, he wasn’t feeling well. He had a boil in his throat and couldn’t eat or drink water. He even went to the pharmacy to get drugs for his condition,” the family exclusively told Gossips 24.

  • The aura at Manhyia Palace is not for the faint-hearted – Kumchacha

The aura at Manhyia Palace is not for the faint-hearted – Kumchacha

Prophet Kumchacha, part of the delegation that accompanied Afia Pokua to Manhyia Palace, expressed that the atmosphere at the palace is incredibly intense and not meant for the timid. He likened the experience of facing the chiefs and elders to being on trial in front of a Supreme Court judge.

He emphasized that while some may dismiss the authority of such institutions, the reality is quite different. “Being summoned before the chiefs and elders at Manhyia Palace is just like standing in the witness box before a Supreme Court judge. People say there are no laws in Ghana, but just commit a crime and see the consequences.

“Manhyia, like the Supreme Court, isn’t a place for the weak. Your heart will race, and all sorts of thoughts will flood your mind. Your entire body will feel weak and even the bold cannot withstand it,” he stated in an interview with Kofi TV.

Kumchacha described the experience at Manhyia as a significant emotional challenge, stating that it can make even the most courageous feel vulnerable. He pointed out Afia Pokua’s visibly shaken demeanor when she knelt before the chiefs, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

He noted that although Afia had previously issued public apologies on various platforms, it was essential for her to apologize directly in front of the chiefs. “While she apologized on TV, radio, and even issued a statement on social media, that’s not the proper way to apologize to a Chief like Otumfuo,” he stated.

    Watch video below:

    Afia Pokua’s apology rejected

After hours of pleading at Manhyia Palace, Afia Pokua was asked to leave and never set foot there again.

Not even the faction of elders who advocated for her could persuade the Otumfuo’s representative to accept her apology.

One elder pleaded on Afia Pokua’s behalf, that she (Pokua), had been on her knees since her arrival and had brought an apology that should be considered.

However, the Otumfuo’s representative remained resolute, stating that in the palace, an apology isn’t always sufficient in such matters.

He emphasised that there are times when offenders are left to face their consequences, and Afia Pokua’s situation was one of those.

Afia Pokua and Mona Gucci summoned

After apologising on their respective social media platforms for disrespecting the Asantehene and offering another apology on live TV, Afia Pokua and Mona Gucci honoured the invitation to Manhyia Palace to deliver a formal apology to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

They were accompanied by Prophet Kumchacha and a delegation from Onua TV, the media house where Afia Pokua made comments about the Asantehene.

Dressed in all black, Afia Pokua was seen kneeling in front of the Otumfuo’s representative almost throughout the proceedings.

Moderated by the Otumfuo’s Okyeame (Linguist), both parties addressed the issues, and the offenders presented their third apology to the delegation.

    Background

The controversy began when Afia Pokua, a journalist at Agoo TV, criticised the Asantehene for his perceived silence amid ongoing conflicts involving his subjects and other tribes, including the Bonos.

On Onua FM’s ‘Bribi Gye Gye wo,’ hosted by Mona Gucci, Pokua expressed frustration with what she sees as Ashantis proving superiority over other tribes and the Asantehene’s refusal to act on it.

These statements have sparked massive outrage among the Ashantis, with many individuals, including sub-chiefs and queen mothers, openly voicing their criticism.

Also, the angry Asante youth staged a protest and held a press conference to address the situation.

Pregnancy shouldn’t be the reason to settle for marriage – Karen Kane

Karen Afua Panyin Kane, a prominent stylist and owner of Kash Boutique, recently expressed her views on marriage and pregnancy during an interview on Just Being Us with MzGee.

She believes that expecting a child shouldn’t be a reason to rush into marriage.

Reflecting on her own experiences, Karen shared how she raised her daughter alone after her boyfriend abandoned her during her pregnancy while she was living in the United Kingdom.

“For me, I met this guy, and we were dating, and I thought we were free to do anything, and I also thought that, you know, we were in this together me and him but it turned out that I was in this all by myself,” she said.

Initially, Karen contemplated terminating her pregnancy, but the timing of the appointment made it impossible to go through with the procedure “One time, I decided to go to my sexual health nurse and book an appointment to have an abortion. The date they gave me if I had gone to do an abortion on that date my daughter would have been six months in my stomach, and it would have been impossible,” she explained.

Now happily married, Karen revealed the societal challenges she faced as a single mother. “Being pregnant is not a valid reason to marry someone,” she asserted.

She emphasized that becoming a single mother is often unplanned and can lead to unexpected strengths. “Pregnancy is not a good enough reason to be married to somebody,” Karen opined.

“I have always said that being a single mother is not something you plan. If it happens to you, it is not a bad thing. One advantage of being a single mother was the fact that I felt I had to work hard to prove to somebody that this is what you missed out on or something,” she added.

“I want to make AWW safe again” – Dumelo after installing streetlights across communities

Actor and politician John Dumelo has pledged to improve safety in his constituency by addressing the issue of poorly lit streets.

His ongoing initiative to install streetlights across various communities aims to boost nighttime visibility and enhance security for residents.

Dumelo, who is contesting the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat, sees this project as a direct response to growing concerns about crime and accidents linked to inadequate lighting.

His efforts reflect a broader commitment to creating a safer environment that supports both social and economic growth.

The project is also a collaborative effort, with Dumelo emphasizing the need for input from local leaders and residents to ensure the initiative meets community needs.

He believes that by working together, they can build trust and foster a more secure environment.

“I want to make Ayawaso West safe again, hence my commitment to security is unwaverin. The installation of street lights across the constituency still continues… one pole at a time. We need to light up Ayawaso West, it’s been dark for too long. Our people need to feel safe,” he stated.

Number one spot on ballot paper is God’s doing – Bawumia

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has attributed securing the top spot on the ballot for the 2024 presidential election to God Almighty.

Dr. Bawumia made this submission during a recent visit to the Church of Pentecost in Breman Asikuma, Central Region, saying “we gathered to determine the order of the ballot, and through our prayers, we trust that God heard us. The result was the number one position, for which we are profoundly thankful.”

Reflecting on the ballot process and beyond, he shared, “There are countless things beyond human control, but we have faith that God can accomplish anything. With faith in God, we can achieve our goals.”

The balloting for the 2024 presidential election which took place on September 20, 2024, was not devoid of controversy as the opposition National Democratic Congress challenged the picking of the number one spot by the NPP’s Elections Director, Evans Nimako.

Despite the NDC’s objections, the NPP representative stood firm, and after some heated discussions, the process resumed, resulting in the NPP once again drawing the number one spot, which has since ignited a wave of social media commentary regarding its seemingly miraculous nature.

A total of 13 candidates have successfully gone through the nomination process and are now eligible to contest in the upcoming election.

The order of candidates on the ballot paper is as follows: Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP), Daniel Augustus Lartey (GCPP), Akua Donkor (GFP), Christian Kwabena Andrews (GUM), Kofi Akpaloo (LPG), Mohammed Frimpong (NDP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Kumankuma (CPP), John Dramani Mahama (NDC), Hassan Ayariga (APC), Kofi Koranteng (Independent), George Twum-Barima-Adu (Independent), Nana Kwame Bediako (Independent), and Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremateng (Independent).

  • Cocoa bean export value plummets by 26.9% in second quarter of 2024 – GSS

Cocoa bean export value plummets by 26.9% in second quarter of 2024 – GSS

Recent data from the Ghana Statistical Service reveals a sharp decline in the monetary value of the exportation of cocoa beans for the second quarter of 2024.

Exports dropped from GH₵ 1.57 billion in the second quarter of 2023 to GH₵ 1.15 billion in the second quarter of 2024, representing a significant 26.9% decrease.

This marks the fifth consecutive quarterly drop, with the first quarter of 2024 also seeing a 24.7% fall compared to the same period in 2023. The reduction recorded in the first half of 2024 plunged by 80%, amounting to a GH₵ 4 billion loss.

The lower export values coincide with a challenging cocoa production season, with only 429,323 metric tons produced by June 2024, far below average levels. This year’s total output is anticipated to be the lowest in over 20 years due to the activities of illegal smuggling, and unlawful mining activities, among others.

Globally, poor harvests in key cocoa-producing countries like Ghana and Ivory Coast have resulted in a four-year supply deficit, driving prices up. However, Ghana has not fully benefited from these higher prices, largely due to widespread smuggling.

Low local cocoa prices and delayed payments have pushed many farmers to sell to smuggling networks, leading to the loss of over a third of Ghana’s 2023/24 cocoa crop, estimated at 160,000 metric tons.

In an effort to combat smuggling, Ghana’s COCOBOD has raised the farm gate price by 45% for the 2024/25 season, bringing it to GH₵ 3,000 per 64-kilogram bag.  This increase makes Ghana’s price GH₵ 440 higher than Côte d’Ivoire’s, which had previously offered better rates, encouraging smuggling.

While the price hike is aimed at keeping more cocoa in Ghana, its success will depend on how Côte d’Ivoire adjusts its pricing in the coming season.

NIA to roll out Ghana Card registration for minors on October 7

The National Identification Authority (NIA) is set to begin the registration process for the Ghana Card aimed at minors aged 6 to 14 starting October 7, 2024.

This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that every citizen is included in the national identification framework.

In this initial phase, registration will be conducted in selected schools across various districts, providing a more accessible means for eligible children to enroll.

By focusing on educational institutions, the NIA seeks to simplify the process for parents and guardians.

In a recent interview with Citi News, Alfred Gazari, the NIA’s Deputy Director of Operations, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating that integrating children into the national database is vital for establishing a comprehensive identification system for all Ghanaians.

“This registration for children aged 6 to 14 is essential to our goal of enrolling every Ghanaian. We’ve already registered individuals over 15 and initiated the process for those under 5. This is the final phase for all citizens, including those abroad.”

“Everyone needs the Ghana Card. Without it, you can’t access essential services, so it’s vital to include children in this age group.”

He emphasized that possessing a Ghana Card is essential for accessing critical services, making it imperative to include children in this registration effort.

Court remands Oliver Barker-Vormawor for 2 weeks

Oliver Barker-Vormawor and 11 other protesters have been placed in police custody for two weeks after their involvement in the #StopGalamseyNow protest, which took place from September 21 to 23. This recent development has increased the total number of arrested participants to 51.

Barker-Vormawor and another protester, Fanny Otoo, were unable to attend court the day prior due to health issues, as stated by their legal representatives who informed the court that they were receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

Barker-Vormawor is facing eight charges, including theft, defacement of public notices, and conduct likely to disturb the peace. The case is set to continue on October 8.

The #StopGalamseyNow protest is part of a broader movement aimed at addressing the issue of illegal mining, known locally as “galamsey,” in Ghana.

This practice has led to significant environmental destruction, such as water contamination, deforestation, and the degradation of agricultural land.

Activists, civil society groups, and concerned citizens are calling for more robust government action to combat illegal mining, which they claim poses threats not only to the environment but also to public health and livelihoods.

Barker-Vormawor, a key figure in the #FixTheCountry movement, has been outspoken on issues like corruption and the need for governance reforms.

His participation in the #StopGalamseyNow protest highlights the growing discontent with the government’s perceived inaction regarding illegal mining.

The three-day protest aimed to increase awareness and urge government officials to respond swiftly to the crisis.

The arrest of 51 individuals, including Barker-Vormawor, has sparked renewed discussions about civil liberties, the government’s approach to protests, and the future of environmental preservation in Ghana.

The upcoming court hearing on October 8 will play a crucial role in determining the legal outcomes for those involved in the protests.

‘Thief President’ song isn’t targeted at Akufo-Addo alone – Blakk Rasta

Blakk Rasta, the host of Urban Blend on Accra’s 3FM and a reggae musician, clarified that his song “Thief President,” performed at the recent Nkrumahfest concert, is not aimed at any single president. Instead, he emphasized that the track addresses the issues of greed and corruption among all current African leaders.

In a recent interview on 3FM Drive, he explained that the song features various African leaders, including President Akufo-Addo and President Yoweri Museveni, and is a general critique of leadership in the continent.

“Not at all. If you look at the video, there’s a lot of African leaders. There’s President Akufo-Addo, there’s President Yoweri Museveni, it was just Presidents. It’s not for me to tell you who is a thief and who is not a thief.

“In every country, I believe that they know who is not treating them well as their President so if the cap fits you, wear it,” he clarified on 3FM Drive, Wednesday, September 25.

The Nkrumahfest concert, held on September 21 to celebrate the legacy of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, coincided with his 115th birthday. Blakk Rasta shared that he faced threats following his performance, stating, “After I did the song, I was just on my way out and I said I didn’t intend to give the song here because I intended to come and give a speech but they were insisting that I should sing something.

“So, when I sang it by evening it was all over the place. For me it’s a wake-up call for all our African leaders. If you are a thief, then change.

“I got a couple of calls after that. People called me with non-existing numbers (threatening me). So, the organizers beefed up my security at my hotel,” he stated.

He views his performance as a call to action for African leaders to reform, saying, “If you’re guilty of the accusations, it’s time for change.”

Ghanaian reggae artist and political commentator Blakk Rasta has revealed he faced threats following his viral performance at the Nkrumah Fest.

In an interview with Accra-based 3FM, he explained that he was initially invited to speak at the event, but the enthusiastic crowd encouraged him to perform instead.

He kicked off with “Kwame Nkrumah,” followed by an impromptu rendition of “Barack Obama,” and wrapped up with the controversial “Thief President.”

This final song ignited a backlash, and clips of his performance quickly circulated on social media.

Despite his efforts to clarify that the song wasn’t aimed at any individual, the reaction was intense.

“After I did the song, I was just on my way out and telling myself, I didn’t intend to sing here. I just intended to come and give a speech because that was the original thing.

I’ve been trying to make peace with Stonebwoy for the past 5 years – Kelvyn Boy

Ghanaian musician Kelvyn Boy has revealed that he has been attempting to reconcile with Stonebwoy for the past five years.

In an interview on HitzFM, he expressed his desire to put their differences aside and return to amicable terms.

“I have been trying to settle my feud with Stonebwoy for the past five years, but I don’t think he is ready yet. When he is ready, I will be there, but for now, I have been making efforts to patch things up with him,” Kelvyn Boy stated.

We’ve no alternative, no political party is worth voting for – Efia Odo

Actress and socialite Efia Odo has joined the #FreeCitizens campaign, which is currently gaining traction on social media.

This movement follows the recent arrests of protestors from the #StopGalamseyNow and #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstrations, including socialite Ama Governor and artist Glenn Samm, during a three-day protest at Accra’s 37 Military Roundabout.

On September 25, 2024, Efia Odo took to X to express her outrage over the detention of these activists, labeling it as a form of ‘oppression.’ She questioned,

“Set us free from oppressors’ rule, who is our oppressor? Before, we used to blame the white man but if we search deeply it’s our own skin folk causing the oppression. Protestors arrested without bail for what exactly? Are we not allowed to care for the future of this country again?” she asked.

Efia also pondered the challenge of choosing the right political party to support, suggesting that even the opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), might not be capable of rectifying the government’s missteps.

She voiced her frustration with the political landscape, stating, “The crazy part of all of this is, we still have to vote. Who do we even vote for? Someone will say, “the lesser evil”. Excuse my language but we’re fu**ked as a people and as a country. If NDC comes into

“Power it will take more than 4 years to correct any wrongs. I can’t imagine what NPP will also do if they stay in power. Ghana used to be one of the best African countries in the world, but overly corrupt politicians have destroyed our reputation. We don’t have Leaders, we have oppressors,” she added.

In her remarks, she lamented how Ghana, once a leading nation in Africa, has been brought down by corrupt politicians, stating, “We lack true leaders; instead, we have oppressors.”

    Background

The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters were arrested during their demonstration, which took place over the weekend.

The protestors have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court. They face five charges: conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, breach of public peace, and assault on public officers.

They pleaded not guilty to all charges and are set to reappear in court on October 8, 2024.

‘I don’t listen to noise’ – Baba Sadiq critiques Stonebwoy’s latest song ‘Jejereje’

Sadiq Abdulai Abu, known in the music industry as ‘Baba Sadiq‘ and a parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi Central, has voiced his disapproval of Stonebwoy’s latest track, “Jejereje,” labeling it as mere noise.

The dispute arose after a fan suggested on Facebook that Baba Sadiq had been secretly listening to the single.

In response, Sadiq firmly denied the claim, stating, “I don’t listen to ‘noise.’ It’s not a ‘superior artistic product.’”

Despite Sadiq’s critique, Stonebwoy’s “Jejereje” has quickly gained popularity, currently sitting at number one on YouTube Music and accumulating over 200,000 views within just 48 hours of its release.

    Background

Baba Sadiq and Stonebwoy have been at loggerheads for some time, with the former 3Music boss taking every opportunity to criticise the dancehall musician.

Their feud began when Baba Sadiq accused Stonebwoy of threatening his wife and being generally abusive toward women.

In response, Stonebwoy filed a lawsuit against Baba Sadiq, seeking an apology and damages amounting to GH₵3 million for the claims he deemed defamatory.

During the recent TGMAs, Baba Sadiq actively campaigned against Stonebwoy, promoting King Promise over the BHIM Nation boss.

He appears to be continuing this trend as he prepares for the next TGMAs.

  • Denigrating a chief on social media should incur stiffer punishments – Kweku Darlington

Denigrating a chief on social media should incur stiffer punishments – Kweku Darlington

Ghanaian artist Kweku Darlington has called for harsher penalties to address the rising trend of social media insults directed at chiefs and elders.

Speaking about the recent spate of disrespectful videos circulating online, he emphasized the need for accountability, suggesting that making an example of offenders could deter such behavior.

He expressed his frustration, stating, “We must not tolerate this kind of disrespect. If even one person faced consequences for their actions, it would serve as a wake-up call for others to show respect for our elders.

Regardless of personal opinions, our elders deserve honor, much like how one should respect their own father, despite any flaws.”

Darlington argued that there are no advantages to insulting a chief or an elder and that such actions ultimately bring misfortune upon the perpetrators.

He proposed a dramatic solution, saying, “If someone disrespects a chief, they should be required to offer several sheep as a sacrifice.

This would send a clear message that such disrespect will not be taken lightly.”

He believes that if there were clear consequences for these actions, it would discourage others from following suit.

“We don’t have to encourage such acts and if those doing it have been punished at least one of them, like we will give utmost respect to our elders because even if your Dad is bad he’s still your father.

“There are no benefits attached to denigrating a chief or hurling insults on an elderly person and it’s rather cursed that you’re inviting upon yourself so why do we do that,” he told Amansan Krakye.

“In my opinion, if someone disrespects a chief we have to invite the person to slaughter about 5 or 4 sheep like everyone will learn a lesson from it and desist from that act,” he added.

“Because that behaviour has come up on social media that people just get up and sit behind a phone to insult chiefs and elderly people, if at least one person has been punished like most people will put an end to it”.

This movement began after protesters, including socialite Ama Governor and artist Glenn Samm, were arrested during a three-day demonstration at the 37 Military Roundabout in Accra.

The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest, which addressed issues like illegal mining and economic mismanagement, resulted in confrontations with the police.

Several demonstrators were arrested, sparking the #FreeTheCitizens campaign that has gained support from notable figures like Efya, Camidoh, Efia Odo, and Nigerian musician Chike.

Despite the public outcry, Agya Koo took to his X handle on September 25, 2024, urging Ghanaians to vote for NPP candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December elections.

“Vote for @MBawumia to continue the good work of President Nana Addo and NPP,” he posted.

A pretentious life is not profitable in the long run – Beverly Afaglo

Beverly Afaglo recently shared her thoughts on social media culture, noting that many people who showcase luxury lifestyles online often do so for the sake of gaining followers.

During an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, the actress expressed her belief that portraying a life of affluence, especially when it doesn’t reflect one’s true circumstances, offers little benefit in the long run.

“People post cars that are not theirs, pose around and talk about them. Some also buy their own cars and announce it was a gift from their man, to praise him, and when they break up, that’s when the embarrassing truth comes out,” she cited.

She highlighted the common practice of people flaunting expensive cars or claiming they received lavish gifts from their partners, only for the truth to emerge after a breakup.

“the speed at which they want to acquire things in life.

“I mean I’m 40. I don’t know why a 25-year-old should drive the car I drive at all cost. That was not even the plan for me when I was 25,” she said.

Afaglo, who described herself as someone who avoids being boastful, emphasized the importance of living authentically.

“It’s unnecessary to always try to impress people. Just live your life,” she advised, explaining that while she’s open to compliments, she doesn’t actively seek validation for her fashion sense or possessions.

Speaking on the pressures faced by younger generations, she cautioned against rushing to acquire material things.

“God can bless you to afford some things. Praise the Lord. A partner could come into your life and give you luxurious things. It’s good. But don’t go and heap on yourself many men, take money from them, put it together and buy that car or rent a place in East Legon because you want to create an impression that you are a big girl [successful and significant].

“If you do this, you’ll find yourself living the life of a prostitute. Eventually, not wanting to be disgraced because of rent will force you into a tight corner,” she said.

“The over-speeding in life is too much. If you are made to feel as though you’re lagging behind, retort: ‘How old am I? I have a long way ahead of me,” the award-winning actress encouraged.

Democracy Hub Demo: Recklessness and lawlessness can’t be tolerated – NPP

Ghana is approaching a pivotal election, and the recent actions of demonstrators have raised serious concerns about maintaining law and order, according to the Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu.

He expressed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its leader, John Dramani Mahama, are exhibiting desperation in their quest for power, potentially jeopardizing the nation’s stability.

Owusu-Bempah accused the NDC and Mahama of using demonstrations as a political maneuver to sow discord in the lead-up to the elections.

His remarks followed a weekend protest organized by members of Democracy Hub, which resulted in several arrests due to unruly behavior.

He lamented that such events threaten Ghana’s democratic fabric, attributing the unrest to calculated efforts by the NDC to disrupt peace.

Owusu-Bempah noted, “I have joined demonstrations in the past with AFAG, I was a leading member of the Let My Vote Count Alliance, and we mobilize people on the streets to demonstrate lawfully, we were not reckless. If we continue to allow people to embark on this recklessness, or we give a few people the opportunity to go into sensitive public installations and be doing this then we have a problem especially when we are going for a crucial election.

“We are going into a crucial election, and Mahama is so desperate and they will do anything at all to make sure we don’t get the peace in Ghana after the election, They know they have lost the elections already,” he told journalists.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, he stated that Mahama’s actions indicate a frantic attempt to undermine the electoral process, asserting that the NDC is already aware of their impending loss.

Recently, a court in Accra remanded 28 individuals involved in the three-day Democracy Hub protests after denying their bail requests.

They face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit unlawful assembly, destruction of property, and assaulting a public officer. Additionally, another group of eleven protestors was similarly remanded, facing both the original charges and new allegations of defacing public property.

Their pleas were not entered, and a bench warrant was issued for one individual who failed to attend court despite prior notice.

I lost two toes after my accident – Sonnie Badu reveals

Ghanaian gospel artist and preacher Sonnie Badu has opened up about a traumatic domestic accident he suffered in December 2023, which resulted in the loss of two toes.

Just days before his highly anticipated Rhythm of Africa Concert on December 9, Badu revealed he had undergone surgeries on his leg following the incident.

“I went through depression for six months, I’m left with only three toes,” he said.

Despite his condition, he still performed at the concert in Accra, prompting speculation on social media that his injury might be a publicity stunt a claim he strongly refuted.

Now, in a September 2024 interview on Onua Showtime, Badu shared the harrowing details of the accident. He explained that he slipped while cleaning a staircase, which caused his leg to impale a sharp metal rail, leading to severe injuries.

“I was bleeding everywhere. We drove to the hospital and I walked to the emergency. When the doctors checked, they asked where are my toes. I asked, ‘Which toes?’ I asked my team members to go check with a torchlight and they saw the toes on the floor, picked it up, placed them in an iced box and brought it to the hospital. The doctors checked and refused it,” he narrated.

Badu also revealed that he battled depression for six months following the accident, stating, “I’m left with only three toes.” During the interview, he showed host Nana Ama McBrown images related to the incident, further validating his account.

I battled depression for almost six months – Sonnie Badu discloses

Ghanaian preacher and gospel artist Sonnie Badu residing in the US recently shared his struggle with severe depression.

He described isolating himself for long periods in his office, grappling with overwhelming feelings and contemplating self-harm.

Despite these dark times, the well-being of his six young children provided him with the motivation to persevere.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Sonnie Badu credited Rev. Eastwood Anaba for playing a pivotal role in his recovery, revealing that God had shown the esteemed pastor his plight.

Badu reflected on his six-month battle with depression, noting instances where he would sit in his dimly lit office for up to 12 hours without speaking to anyone.

Writing a song during this period became a form of expression for him. He recounted, “The thought of harming myself did cross my mind, but my children kept me grounded.

The last thing I wanted was for them to suffer because of me. Managing bills and expenses, especially after purchasing a home, was daunting.

I turned to prayer, sought guidance, and ultimately found redemption through Rev. Eastwood’s support.”

“I battled depression for almost six months. Sometimes, I would stay in my office alone for 12 hours with the lights off, not wanting to talk to anyone. It was really bad, but during that time, I wrote a song. The thought of harming myself crossed my mind once or twice.

“But thinking about my six children made it difficult. They are young, and if something happened to me, that would be my biggest concern. That thought gave me hope. The painful part was having to pay my bills, and you know how the US system is. All the bills come after buying a house. I had to pray, lay hands, and seek counseling. Rev. Eastwood was the one God used to redeem me,” he stated.

TikTok to close down its music streaming platform on November 28

TikTok has announced that it will shut down its music streaming service, TikTok Music, globally on November 28. Currently available in only five countries Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and Mexico, the platform will cease operations in these regions.

The decision comes as TikTok aims to redirect its resources towards enhancing the “Add To Music App” feature. This functionality allows users to save music tracks they discover on TikTok directly to playlists on their favorite music streaming platforms.

Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, explained that the “Add to Music App” feature has facilitated hundreds of millions of track saves to partner platforms, emphasizing TikTok’s commitment to increasing music consumption and value for artists and the industry.

Launched last summer as a successor to ByteDance’s existing music platform, Resso, TikTok Music had secured licenses from all major record labels. Despite launching in additional countries last October, the app initially lacked Universal Music Group’s catalog due to licensing disputes, which TikTok has since resolved.

TikTok’s “Add To Music App” feature is already integrated with major streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon, and is available to users in over 180 countries. The company is reportedly in talks with other music subscription platforms to expand this feature further.

Recently, TikTok highlighted its influence on music trends, noting that over a quarter of the Top 100 singles in Germany last year gained popularity on the platform before charting.

Galamsey: Witches and demons, you’ve no empathy for Ghanaians – Rev Obofour blasts Akufo-Addo’s gov’t

Rev. Obofour, the founder and leader of the Anointed Palace Chapel (APC), passionately criticized Ghana’s leadership during his sermon on Sunday, September 21, 2024.

Expressing his frustration, he condemned the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration for its perceived inaction regarding illegal small-scale mining, known as galamsey, which he claims is devastating the country’s water resources and endangering lives.

He characterized the government’s negligence as a sign of “witchcraft” overtaking the nation, suggesting that only those devoid of compassion would misappropriate funds intended for public health infrastructure.

Rev. Obofour stated, “We have MPs who are witches, we have presidents who are witches. I’m telling you this. We have MPs who are witches, we have teachers who are witches, we have a DCE who is a witch, and for him, he is also a fool in addition. If not, why would politicians be stealing money and saving it abroad while students are being killed when they try crossing rivers because there are no bridges?

“Because they are witches, they don’t have empathy. They are the same as demons. If not, people would not be using funds meant for the construction of toilet facilities to buy plane tickets for their girlfriends and their communicator would come and defend this, saying other governments have been doing the same,” he said in Twi.

He further lamented the state of the healthcare system, pointing out that nursing mothers are forced to sleep on the floor at Korle-Bu Hospital due to lack of resources.

He questioned the absence of a standard stadium for sports events and the neglect of existing facilities, attributing these issues to a lack of accountability and empathy among leaders.

Despite the potential backlash from his remarks, Rev. Obofour made it clear that he would not shy away from speaking out against what he views as systemic failures within the government, even invoking curses against anyone who might seek to silence him.

“Witchcraft has taken over the nation. We are all sitting and watching as our water bodies are being destroyed… If not for witchcraft, why would people be given money to fix our hospitals but you go to Korle-Bu and see nursing mothers sleeping on the floor? If you aren’t a witch or foolish, why would you sit down and allow a country like Ghana to be without a standard stadium for matches? If not for witchcraft, how can you sit and allow a stadium to deplete to the level where it cannot be used? How can you look on while our stadiums go to waste?”

Most prophets fake prophecies about presidential elections to cash out – KSM

Kwaku Sintim-Misa, known as KSM, a seasoned Ghanaian comedian and media figure, has taken a strong stance against clergymen who frequently predict election outcomes in Ghana, dubbing them “false prophets.”

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, KSM expressed his discontent with these individuals, accusing them of exploiting their congregations for monetary gain through deceptive prophecies. He pointed out that these so-called prophets often announce predictions about presidential elections, which, if they happen to materialize, result in heightened church attendance and financial windfalls for the pastors.

He remarked, “These false prophets also have their own cash-out system, divine cash-out. Their cash out is that they will make fake prophecies about who will be president. Once they make a so-called prophecy that prophecy is fulfilled, their churches are full.

“But they are all fake. The fact that some of the alleged prophecies may come true does not mean that they are righteous. It is fake,” he stated.

KSM emphasized that even if some predictions happen to be accurate, it doesn’t validate the righteousness of the prophets, labeling their actions as insincere.

He likened their practices to a lottery, where the outcomes are unpredictable, yet the prophets are always equipped with justifications for their claims.

“I know many pastors who were not into this prophecy business. But they tell you, when they (the congregation) come, they want you to prophesy. So in order for the pastor to stay in business, they have to do a fake prophecy,” he said.

He also pointed out that some pastors feel compelled to resort to making false prophecies to meet the expectations of their congregations and sustain their ministries.

“I know numerous pastors who didn’t originally engage in prophecy, but they feel the need to deliver prophecies to keep their congregations satisfied and their churches operational,” he noted.

In his closing remarks, KSM called on the Electoral Commission, under Jean Mensa’s leadership, to facilitate a transparent and fair electoral process, free from the shadow of these misleading prophecies.

Language doesn’t determine an artist’s reach – Trigmatic

Ghanaian rapper Trigmatic, whose real name is Enoch Nana Yaw Oduro-Agyei, has challenged the notion that artists must record in English to reach a broader audience.

In a recent interview with Accra-based TV3, he emphasized that the success of an artist on the international stage largely depends on their publishers and distributors rather than the language of the music.

“I disagree with that. It doesn’t necessarily take the artiste to go far. It takes his publishers and distributors to do that job and so if you have a good publisher and they want to take you far, they can if they don’t want to or they are limited, that’s what is going to happen,” Trigmatic explained.

He urged fellow musicians to embrace their cultural heritage by creating more music in local languages, asserting that the Ghanaian music scene is missing out on the richness of its traditions and culture.

Trigmatic stressed the importance of national pride, encouraging artists to record in vernacular languages. “I think we need to start being proud of who we are as a people. We need to encourage a lot of people to record in vernacular (local languages). There is nothing wrong or bad about it. I think it is something we need to encourage,” he said.

He also shared insights from his collaborations with South African artists, noting their commitment to tradition and originality, which has contributed to their success with songs in their native languages.

“They are very traditional, they don’t take away their originality and it is something that I learnt,” he added.

Known for his works in the Ga language, Trigmatic made his debut in 2010 with the album Permanent Stains, featuring popular tracks such as “My Life,” “My Jolly,” and “Mefiri Ghana.” His contributions to music earned him the Best Rapper of the Year award in 2011.

I received ‘yam’ and ‘kontomire’ stew as payment after a performance – Musician discloses

Gospel musician Perpetual Didier recently opened up about the hurdles faced by gospel artists in Ghana, sharing a particularly memorable and humbling story from her early days in the industry.

In an interview with Fiifi Praat on Kingdom FM, which was reported by MyNewsGh.com, Perpetual recounted an experience from about ten years ago when she performed at a church event and received food as payment instead of cash.

She remembered being invited to perform at a church program where a Ghanaian producer, who was attending for an album launch, approached her with the opportunity.

“I was pregnant at the time, but I recognized how vital this chance was for my career, so I decided to go for it,” she explained.

Full of energy and excitement, Perpetual looked forward to giving her best performance. Afterward, rather than the anticipated monetary compensation, the producer handed her tubers of yam and kontomire stew that they had purchased on their way home.

“On the day of the performance, I had a delightful meal and was excited to give my best on stage. After the event, the producer handed me tubers of yam that we had bought on the way home.

“I was expecting to receive an envelope with the yam, but that didn’t happen.”

While the experience served as a reality check, it also strengthened her resolve to navigate the complexities of the gospel music scene.

When asked about performers’ reactions to money being tossed at them during shows, Perpetual candidly noted, “Everyone has their own way of dealing with it. Personally, I would keep the money for myself.”

Her response was both lighthearted and practical, illustrating the expectation of compensation that artists have for their craft.

  • Why I resigned from my job to become a full-time bouncer – CEO of Bouncers with Degree

Why I resigned from my job to become a full-time bouncer – CEO of Bouncers with Degree

Augustine Addo, CEO of ‘Bouncers with Degree’, shared the story behind his transition from banking to full-time entrepreneurship in the security industry.

The idea for his business first emerged during his university days at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), where he and a friend, both known for their muscular builds, began working as bouncers at campus events like Artiste Nights.

Balancing his studies, a banking job, and the bouncing gig, Augustine didn’t initially realize the potential of his side hustle.

One day, while still employed at the bank, he received a request for five bouncers.

When he quoted his fee, the client agreed immediately.

“Bouncers with a degree started way back in the university when I had joined the school, which is UPSA. On campus, we had something called the Artiste Night. I and a friend were the only machomen on campus at that time so whenever the artist arrived, we escorted him or her on stage. So that is how the whole thing started,” he said in an interview with TV3’s Giovani Caleb.

The amount he stood to earn from this single job far exceeded his banking salary.

Realizing the opportunity, Augustine made the bold decision to resign and pursue the bouncing business full-time a choice that initially angered his mother but ultimately earned her pride.

“While I was in school, I was working with the bank. I was in the bank one day and I received a message: ‘I need five bouncers; what is my bill.’ I mentioned an amount and the guy was like, okay, give me five. At that moment, I compared the amount I was receiving from the bank and the amount I was about to get from the offer so I decided to start something with it. I resigned from the job to start the business. My mother was angry but he is now proud of me,” he explained.

Though he didn’t provide specifics on where he felt the government had fallen short, Camidoh intensified his critique in a follow-up post, using harsher language: “Sh*tty people, y’all disgust us.”

In another post, Camidoh shared a message from X user Sika Official, criticizing the recent arrest of 39 Democracy Hub protesters.

These individuals were remanded on Tuesday for what authorities described as unlawful actions during a three-day demonstration.

The repost read “Walahi, this country makes me sick. Why are innocent people being taken to court for protesting against the same thing we are all suffering from? These people are out there actively destroying our water bodies with this galamsey activity, but it’s the innocent protesters you chose to arrest. Ghana Police should bow their heads in shame,” Camidoh reposted.

Ghanaian rapper Trigmatic, whose real name is Enoch Nana Yaw Oduro-Agyei, recently opened up about his divorce from ex-wife Edith Schandorf during an interview on The Day Show.

He reflected on the challenges he faced, stating that while the experience was tough, it taught him valuable lessons.

“It’s not just one-sided; I recognize my flaws. Things could have been better,” he admitted. He described his post-divorce life as a significant learning experience, emphasizing that he wouldn’t wish such a situation on anyone.

Misplaced, misappropriated, miscalculated priorities, sick nation yet you’re buying V8s – Prophet Oduro fires gov’t

Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro, the Head Pastor of Alabaster International Ministry, has strongly criticized the government for what he perceives as a gross misuse of the nation’s resources, particularly in the healthcare sector. During a sermon on September 22, 2024, he voiced his discontent over the government’s priorities, highlighting the lack of essential medical equipment in hospitals.

Prophet Oduro accused the ruling NPP government of prioritizing luxury expenditures, such as high-end vehicles, over critical healthcare needs. He lamented the absence of crucial medical devices like ventilators, MRI machines, and CT scanners in hospitals, emphasizing, “As a nation, look at the way we are wasting things. Misplaced, misappropriated, miscalculated priorities, and this nation is sick,” he declared, referencing Isaiah 1:5 to support his critique.

Additionally, he criticized the silence of church leaders and religious organizations, suggesting that fear of political repercussions has stifled their voices amid the country’s challenges. He urged the church to take a more active stance in promoting national development.

Oduro also addressed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s digitalization initiative, arguing that it has not effectively tackled pervasive issues such as corruption in public institutions.

He pointed out that despite advances in technology, favoritism still influences bureaucratic processes, claiming that connections often dictate who receives expedited services.

“Your institutions are sick. Even with digitalization, middlemen are still operating. If a minister’s girlfriend needs a passport, she gets it the same day, but the ordinary person who pays for fast-track service has to wait a month. Goro boys have just migrated to another level,” he said.

He raised concerns about the handling of taxes, noting that despite substantial tax payments, citizens see little tangible benefit.

Oduro shared a personal anecdote about a young man who paid an exorbitant GH¢140,000 duty fee for a Hyundai Sonata, questioning the accountability of public funds.

“Show me how our taxes are being utilized effectively, and then I might consider paying more,” he concluded, expressing frustration over perceived wastefulness and ineffectiveness in governance.

“A young man went and cleared a Hyundai Sonata and the duty for the car was GH¢140,000. What is a sonata? It’s cool because it’s taxes. Show me the work for the taxes. Show me the work Jubilee House is doing with our taxes then I will pay more. Waste – and the saddest part is when we begin to make comparisons..,” he stated.
