Afrobeat sensation KiDi has shared valuable insights into the distinctive challenges that young Africans encounter while pursuing their dreams and aspirations.
In an interview on the Day Show with Berla Mundi, the singer highlighted the substantial delays and extra obstacles that individuals born in Africa frequently face in comparison to those in more developed nations.
KiDi provided a vivid portrayal of the hardships young Africans must overcome, indicating that they often need to invest significantly more effort and resilience to achieve their goals, especially when compared to those in more privileged circumstances.
He stressed that: “As a kid, if you are born in this part of the world, your dreams and your goals are delayed 10 years. Whatever someone is doing five times, you have to do it times 50. Your effort has to be double; you have to strive, you have to have a monster mentality because you are unfortunate from the start; you’ve lost the race before it began.”
The artist did not shy away from addressing systemic issues prevalent in various sectors across African nations, including challenges within the entertainment industry and agriculture.
In order to close the gap between developing and less developed countries in Africa, he underlined the value of self-improvement and the necessity for people to make investments in their education and personal growth.
KiDi noted, “Not just by being African, we know the broken systems and all—the entertainment industry, agriculture, and everything in Africa.”
KiDi, in his quest to promote a broader perspective, encouraged individuals not to limit themselves to smaller opportunities but to explore larger horizons. He underscored the importance of embracing diverse approaches and learning from a variety of experiences.
The artist also shared his own experiences, noting an interesting cultural observation regarding international shows. He expressed his surprise at the punctuality of foreign audiences, highlighting their tendency to arrive early in contrast to Ghanaian audiences. This cultural difference could have implications for the entertainment industry, emphasizing the need for adaptability in a global context.
KiDi mentioned his plans to resume his tour after a break, signaling his readiness to navigate the intricacies of the international music scene with a heightened understanding of cultural differences and the importance of persistence.
