In the Suhum Municipality, fresh posters featuring Oboafo Kwadjo Asante, the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency, have emerged.
Despite his loss in the last primaries, these posters suggest Asante’s intention to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate in the upcoming general election.
Emblazoned with the slogan “Maintain – Hon Oboafo Kwadjo Asante as MP. The King of Development,” the posters indicate Asante’s defiance against his party’s decision.
The appearance of these posters has generated considerable interest in the constituency, with branded materials like flyers and banners carrying messages such as “The Development King” and “Oboafo Toaso” circulating widely.
Moreover, vehicles showcasing his images suggest a well-organized campaign strategy.
Although Asante has yet to officially declare his intentions, sources close to him indicate that encouragement from market women and other community stakeholders has prompted him to consider this move.
His recent community development projects, including the construction of a new football pitch and bridge, have further enhanced his reputation as a committed public servant.
Meanwhile, the political atmosphere in Suhum remains tense, with Asante and the NPP’s new parliamentary candidate, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, engaging in separate activities within the constituency.
This has prompted calls from concerned party members for leadership intervention to prevent further escalation.
As a first-time candidate, Asante made history in 2020 by securing the parliamentary seat with a significant majority.
