The UK has dispatched 150 tonnes of aid to Gaza today. This includes 13,000 blankets and 840 tents for families. UNICEF and the Foreign Office will give out the aid.
This also includes about 3,000 shelter and repair kits, 6,000 sleeping mats and over 3,000 dignity kits for women and girls.
A hospital tent that can be changed to fit what’s needed will come later this week. The building left Manchester on 5 March and can start working in just 48 hours.
It can help more than 100 patients each day. It has a pharmacy, a place to assess how sick people are, a unit for serious injuries and a place to help people who are very sick, as well as a special area for pregnant women.
The hospital will have doctors and nurses from the local area as well as from other countries, like the UK.
The foreign secretary said the UK will give an additional £10m in aid to the Occupied Palestinian Territories, making the total amount given this year over £100m.
The money will help UN agencies give important help to people in need. They will provide things like tents to help keep them safe.
Lord Cameron said: “There are too many people in Gaza who are going through a lot of pain and hardship. ” Everyone should have a place to live and sleep, and everyone should have hygiene products to stay clean. Our big help delivery, together with a new hospital paid for by the UK, will help people stay alive.
“But we need to stop the fighting right away so we can send the aid that Gaza desperately needs. ” This will also help to safely let hostages go.
We can try to achieve a lasting peace that will not lead to any more destruction, violence, or loss of life.
