PM Netanyahu of Israel outlines after-war strategy for Gaza

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has outlined his aspirations for the post-war transformation of Gaza.

In his plan, Israel will keep security control for a long time, and Palestinians without ties to groups against Israel will govern the area.

The US, who is a big supporter of Israel, wants the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank to rule Gaza after the war.

However, the brief paper that Mr. Netanyahu showed to ministers last night does not talk about the PA.

He has said before that the internationally supported group will not have a role after the war.

He imagines a Gaza Strip without any military equipment. Israel would have to make sure there is only enough military equipment for keeping public order.

A “Southern Closure” will be set up on the border with Egypt to stop people from smuggling things in and out.

And we will encourage programs to help people who have been radicalized to let go of those beliefs in religious, educational, and welfare organizations. The paper says that Arab countries that have done similar programs before might help, but Mr. Netanyahu did not say which ones.

Under the plan, Israel will have control over the entire area west of the Jordan River to ensure security from land, sea, and air.

Mr Netanyahu is being asked to share his plans for Gaza because people are worried about the situation there. This is happening both in his own country and in other countries. It started when he began his military operation. He really wants to fix his bad reputation and show that he can make Israel safe. He also wants to get support from the very conservative people in his government.

A person who speaks for Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, said that Mr Netanyahu’s plan was going to fail.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh said that to have peace in the region, the world should stop Israel from controlling Palestinian land and accept Palestine as its own country.

Mr Netanyahu again said he does not agree with Western countries recognizing a Palestinian state on their own.

At the same time, people who are trying to make a deal for a short break in fighting and the freeing of Israeli hostages are planning to meet in Paris.

The US wants to have a deal before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan starts in a little over two weeks.

The situation is getting worse in Gaza, and people around the world are putting pressure on both sides to stop the war. The Ministry of Health controlled by Hamas says that over 29,500 people, mostly women and children, have died since the war started in October.

Israel’s military started fighting because Hamas attacked on 7th October. The attack killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and 253 people were taken as hostages to Gaza.

Last night, the leader of the UN group in charge of helping Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) said that Gaza is in big trouble and this could cause problems for peace, safety, and human rights in the region.

Mr Netanyahu wants to shut down Unrwa and replace it with other international aid groups because he believes Unrwa workers were involved in the October attacks. This is part of his plan after the war.

He said he will keep fighting until Israel destroys Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza and all Israeli hostages are released.
