Renowned Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame and actor Prince David Osei have been selected to contribute to the formulation of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto, particularly focusing on tourism, arts, and culture.

This dynamic duo is part of the sub-committee chaired by Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, and Akwasi Agyemang, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The committee, which also includes prominent figures like Catherine Abelema Afeku, Dr. Ama Boafo-Arthur, and Claudia Lumor, aims to address the expectations of stakeholders in the cultural and creative industries.

Notably, the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has pledged to implement digital platforms for Ghanaian artists, as highlighted during his recent lecture at the University of Professional Studies in Accra.

In the past, the NPP had promised similar initiatives in its 2020 manifesto for the creative industry, committing to building a digital platform for artists to access the global market.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated his commitment to the creative sector, promising tax incentives for film producers and musicians, as well as the implementation of an e-visa policy to boost tourism and job creation.

Despite these assurances, the NPP has faced criticism from stakeholders in the creative industry for not fulfilling previous promises, including the establishment of the Creative Arts Fund, construction of theatres in key cities, and the creation of recording studios in strategic locations.

Additionally, the construction of a convention and exhibition centre at the Ghana Trade Fair Company site remains incomplete.

The committee’s task now involves shaping a cultural vision that addresses these concerns and meets the expectations of the creative community.
